Commercial Description:
Boskeun is the nickname of Jo, one of the two brothers who preferred to brew blond beer at home. It is a special Easter beer, one of the first real Belgian Easter beers. (Slaghmuylder's paasbier being first). It has been brewed with pale malt, Golding hops, cane sugar and refermented with native honey. As it is a seasonal beer we suggest not to keep it eternally. The name Boskeun means rabbit of the wood (virgin wood, maybe?) and the label shows it, sampling the last brew.

Probably the least impressive of the de dolle beers I’ve had, but still quite pleasant. Poured a very hazy earthy yellow...great looking belgian head.. Aroma was huge candy sugar and sweet malt...a bit of belgian yeast. Flavor was similar...only a bit of the delicious de dolle funk...a bit too heavy on the sweetness. Mouthfeel still managed to be quite spicey and dry.

Spicy aroma, somewhat like a souped up witbier. Some raw alcohol and a bit sweet. A really full bodied beer with great depth. Some good characteristics, but a bit jumbled.

Bottle from Sam’s Wines, Downers Grove. This is an really tasty bit of Belgique. Strongly sugary smell upon opening. Pours golden yellow that’s cloudy with chunks of grist. A stiff white head, but one that dwindles quickly. Taste is more sweetness, with gentle malts that made me think first of wheat. Bit of sourness, like drinking orange juice after a sugary cereal. Interesting general fruit and citrus background. Hop match is not noticeable here, and alcohol becomes noticeable toward the end.

Bottle. Pours a bold reddish amber with a big off-white head. Turns a murky brown when the sediment is poured. The aroma has a strong maltiness to it with lots of prune and caramel; there are also some notes of honey and muffins wafting around with an occasional hint of floral hops. At first sip the flavors of earth, hops, and honey hit me. Then a soft biscuit tone dominates with some raisin and sap. The finish is dry and yeasty, but leaves a somewhat sweet aftertaste. A tasty brew.

Bottle (10% ABV, from Bitter Virtue). Fairly sweet malts with bubblegum yeast and a little bit of light floral hop. Despite the strength this was quite drinkable but not hugely flavoursome. Finisihed with a nice smooth creamy but cloying feel. When I came to pour the second glass I found that the yeast had foamed out of the bottle, not the first time its happened to me with a belgian beer, perhaps I should stop putting the bottles on the floor to save on cleaning.

Bottle. Pours orange with a large fluffy white head and lace, gotta love that gushing De Dolle head. The aroma is full of fruit - some sweet pear and some tart lemon along with caramel, toffee, and bittersweet chocolate and a touch of alcohol. Tastes just like an Easter beer should! Big body - alcohol heat is seen in the finish but in front there is a lot of rich sweet malt, namely sticky chocolate. Evidence of spice too whcih contributes to the heat. Nice. 2003 Vintage samped at Kulminator on May 10, 2006.

Light orange colored, strongly hazy appearance. Very big lasting white head. Strong spices, fruits, yeast and mild alcohol in aroma, rich one. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is even richer than aroma: spices, anis, pepper, fruits and orange, aftertaste is strong with dryness, pepper and medium alcohol, maybe even too much alcohol present. Fine lace in glass.

yellow with huge white head (like your ordinary dolle bier). Yeasty and a bit creamy feel. Very sweet malt and a bitter like finish. This wasnt my best de dolle brouwers beer!
