Commercial Description:
Boskeun is the nickname of Jo, one of the two brothers who preferred to brew blond beer at home. It is a special Easter beer, one of the first real Belgian Easter beers. (Slaghmuylder's paasbier being first). It has been brewed with pale malt, Golding hops, cane sugar and refermented with native honey. As it is a seasonal beer we suggest not to keep it eternally. The name Boskeun means rabbit of the wood (virgin wood, maybe?) and the label shows it, sampling the last brew.

Pours a hazy golden orange with a thin white head that dissipates quickly. Light fruity aroma with lots of orange, cane sugar, and honey. Flavor starts out light and tart with flavors of orange, honey, and spices, and finishes very malty and yeasty with a lingering sourness. Feels good on the palate - crisp carbonation, makes for a good spring seasonal. This is an interesting beer; I’ve never had anything quite like it before.

(01.05.05) 11.6 fl oz brown bottle purchased from DiCarlo’s, Mundelein, IL. Hazy golden yellow with large white long-lasting head with good lacing. Soft carbonation. Intensely fruity aroma, somewhat artificial smelling. Medium bodied that starts dry with light malt sweetness. Notable lactic acid sourness and sharpness in flavor. Intensely fruity flavored, very synthetic. Some plastic flavors. Finishes dry with lingering bitterness. Strange sour, plastic flavors and smell would make this beer borderline drinkable. Definitely an acquired taste.

Bottle, at Erasmus in Brugge, March 2006. Cloudy amber, thin but lasting white head and good condition. Big heavy honeyed aromas with hints of yeast and banana, yeast and chalky bitterness with sweet honey and fruit in the mouth, long lingering yeasty bitterness and honey sweetness in the finish.

Didn’t realize this one was an "Easter" beer. Must be at least a year old at this point then. Pours a hazy orange amber with small floaties and a nice smooth off white lacing head. Smell and taste are very yeasty. Also picking up some honey, candy sugar, fruits and hard to pinpoint spices in the aroma. Taste of honey, some citrus and a little roasty. The more I drink and smell this one it might be the honey that I’m really picking up. Not my favorite De Dolle beer, but still a very solid one.

Pours with one hell of a massive head and a cloudy hazey amber colour. Slightly sharp aroma but nice with it and a orangey full taste followed by a faint bitterness. De Dolle cannot do wrong

Amber body with a large head. Aroma is mainly candy sugar and honey, but also some citrus and yeast. Flavor is the same, it’s quite tart. Some spices in there as well. Good but not great.

Bottle: Courtesy of Secret Santa. Aroma of apple, orange peel, peach, yeast, and spice. Pours a dirty dull cloudy orange with a huge white head with good retention. Lots of orange up front that comes in the form of orange juice and orange peel. Moderate yeastiness in the background. Finishes with moderate acidity, spiciness, and flowery bitterness.

Aroma: pear and light hop/pine, reminicent of Duvel IMO. Appearance: orange/brown and hazy with the yeast added. FANTASTIC merangue head and great sheet lacing. Flavour: Spiritous malt with nice stone fruit and citrus marmalade. Palate: Medium to full mouthfeel, good non harsh carbonation and finishes spiritous and tangy bitter.
