Commercial Description:
Boskeun is the nickname of Jo, one of the two brothers who preferred to brew blond beer at home. It is a special Easter beer, one of the first real Belgian Easter beers. (Slaghmuylder's paasbier being first). It has been brewed with pale malt, Golding hops, cane sugar and refermented with native honey. As it is a seasonal beer we suggest not to keep it eternally. The name Boskeun means rabbit of the wood (virgin wood, maybe?) and the label shows it, sampling the last brew.

Amber body with a large head. Aroma is mainly candy sugar and honey, but also some citrus and yeast. Flavor is the same, it’s quite tart. Some spices in there as well. Good but not great.

Bottle: Courtesy of Secret Santa. Aroma of apple, orange peel, peach, yeast, and spice. Pours a dirty dull cloudy orange with a huge white head with good retention. Lots of orange up front that comes in the form of orange juice and orange peel. Moderate yeastiness in the background. Finishes with moderate acidity, spiciness, and flowery bitterness.

Aroma: pear and light hop/pine, reminicent of Duvel IMO. Appearance: orange/brown and hazy with the yeast added. FANTASTIC merangue head and great sheet lacing. Flavour: Spiritous malt with nice stone fruit and citrus marmalade. Palate: Medium to full mouthfeel, good non harsh carbonation and finishes spiritous and tangy bitter.

Dark golden ale with a thin white head, very classy, a little scummy at first. Sour flemmish aroma, with notes of wild cherries, sugar cane, orange peels, sweet confectionners sugars, french appéritif develops. I could spend hours just smelling it. In mouth, a light balance of acididic cherry and sweet candy sugar, some light hops, honey, and orange peels. A bit weeker than expected on body but a strinking beer, nonetheless. An old cheddar makes it more watery. The Cambozola brings out the honey notes.

Ooohh, I loved this one. Tasted it up first in a run of four De Dolle beers and it personally hit the spot right from the start leaving little room for a waver. Tasted from the bottle after a good year in the cellar and poured into a chalice glass. LIVELY, I couldn’t see the beer below the head on pouring, and it ended in a 50-50 mix of fluffy, cloud-like white foam atop a hazy, sunny gold body. Head would not budge for the length, adding a creamy texture to the mouthfeel, and it left an abundance of thick lace down the glass. Yeasty, zesty and spicy, candi and citrus nose; soft pears and apples, tangy cantaloupe, candi and a little gum-tree honey. Peppery hints of alcohol tickled the nasal cavities, and it all came together as truly warming and mellowing. It was a lovely waft that preceded each mouthful. Intense, strong and yet smooth and mellowing in the mouth; full bodied and velvety in feel. This started off in grandeur and got even better with each sip. Intensely spicy, peppery and rich dark honey, toffee, vanilla and candi flavours with a burst of citric fruits- like tangerines and navel oranges- coming in late and tangy before a wash of warming alcohol and creamy malts. Finish just completed it; long, warming and smooth leaving some tangy fruity esters to flood the mouth between sips. A lovely and surprising mouthful of good ale. Beauty in a glass!!! Re-rate (16/11/05):- Second bottle was even better!
Re-re-rate:- My first re-rate upon re-rate to gain points, this beer is a wonderful expression of individuality and is truly a tasty m*tha-f**ka to boot. Got to track some more down as it keeps going up in my ratings. Lovely!!!

If there were a rating for the label, this, like most De Dolle offerings, would score zero. In other respects, I humbly submit that this beer is close to perfection. It emerged from the bottle full of sound and fury, a stream of aggressive, over-enthusiastic bubbles. Half an hour later it had matured into a yeasty, vinous-scented temptress, promising a seductive taste of sweet-sour-bitterness. Acquire this glorious liquid, friends. Drink it.

Pours hazy orange-gold with a small white head. Winey aroma with sweetness mized in. Tastes starts with apples and finishes dry and alcoholic with a strong note of honey. Like the best from De Dolle, bold and completely unique.
