Commercial Description:
Boskeun is the nickname of Jo, one of the two brothers who preferred to brew blond beer at home. It is a special Easter beer, one of the first real Belgian Easter beers. (Slaghmuylder's paasbier being first). It has been brewed with pale malt, Golding hops, cane sugar and refermented with native honey. As it is a seasonal beer we suggest not to keep it eternally. The name Boskeun means rabbit of the wood (virgin wood, maybe?) and the label shows it, sampling the last brew.

Original rating in spring 2004 = 3.9: Cloudy golden body, bottle-conditioned with plenty of yeast particules. Superbly laced huge foamy head, rocky and leaving a trace on the glass at each sip. Aroma is mostly yeasty-sweet with light herbal hops noticeable in the shape of clover. There’s a good green apple character matching the honeyish malt and the yeast provides a mild farmhouse character. In mouth, the texture is silky and creamy. The taste is in line with the aroma, adding a balancing bitter finish, a bit like a Saison. This is overall an extremely well balanced beer with enough originality to be interesting throughout, but still eminently drinkable.

Necessary update: Never dying head atop the tropical juice colored hue. Let this one breathe my friends and get ready for the showdown. Enormous barleywine-ish honey nose. Highly floral noble hops (goldings?) bring on earthy and musty notes. Soft soft carbonation takes you aback, this is a stunningly easy 5 for the palate, expanding, intrusive mouthfeel. The De Dolle yeast procures more spice hints than you can count and they’re just intertwined one with another in a maze that strikes right through your ecstasy never points. This has it all, the rustic aspects of the best Ardennes yeasts, the punch of something truly special and unique, the sweetness of the best desserts, the round and velvety palate fit for kings and the underlying camouflaged alcohol. An incantation from another world and a superior brew, even from this brewer.

Marcello’s Wine Market, Baton Rouge, La. - 11.6 fl oz bottle. Pours a murky light orage with a very creamy, soft white head with good sticky lacing. Aroma is sweet, some floral accents, a bit of yeast, and some cotton candy. Flavor has some maple syrup, candied sugar and a bit of port. Excallent nightcap. Mouthfeel is decently thick. Overall, a nice diversion.

On tap at Toronado, San Francisco. This golden ale poured with a nice white head that dissipated rather quickly. The flavor is hoppy and spice-laden (cinnamon, nutmeg, citrus), with a more bitter finish. There is also a sweet spicy aroma.

A pretty old bottle I think, pretty mellow, not in a bad way! Half way though it, and enjoying it more as it warms up. Spice, fruit, citrus, alcohol too, liked it, but wish alcohol was better hidden.

My 400th beer. I popped this beer open and poured it in my glass. It pours to a frothy/creamy white head that laces the glass well. The body is an opaque caramel color that has active carbonation bubbling from the bottom. The aroma has spicy fruits present. I definitely smell the cane sugar (I wonder if they got whole cane and dropped that in). White pepper and apricots. The flavor is a spicy (cinnamon, mace, nutmeg, pepper) ale with light apples and apricots, honey. Perhaps a bit too spicy for my taste. The palate is medium-full bodied and is creamy and overly carbonated. De Dolle makes better beers. This one’s not bad, but I’m a little disappointed. :(

arabier is better and more complex IMO. Thsi oen pours a nice copper color with a modest head which fades. Aroma is somewhat fruity with some phenolics, spice, citrus etc. Flavor is a little dull, with some malts blending with spice and fruits. SOme alcohol comes through as it warms. The finish wasnt that great either.

Poured a hazy orange yellow color with a medium sized, creamy, white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of oranges, peaches, spices, vanilla, and yeast. Taste of citrus, spices, lemons, light hoppiness and alcohol.
