Soft, sweetish (from the added cane) and very pleasant from the refined spiciness. 040494 bluevegie (2222), Perth, Australia
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 20, 2005 I thought I learnt my lesson last night when I had the "Mad Bitch" to pour this very slow otherwise you will end up with a too big head, well it still happened, maybe it was a tad too cold. Cloudy light straw/amber body with a huge white head and some fine particles floating in the mix. Aroma is not that strong but you notice the alcohol some spice and some yeast esters. Spice in the taste as well as a touch of grapefruit, a little stickiness, lots of carbonation, medium body and a mild finish. Inveigler (371), Ferndale, Michigan, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 14, 2005 Another tasty number from De Dolle. Damn this is a great brewery. Heavily carbonated, pours a nice cloudy light copper. Has that oxidized maltiness of a beer that has been around awhile in the aroma which tinges of caramel and honey. Some nice spiciness and warmth upon first taste Soft sugary mouth feel. This is truly seasonal and delicious on a chill spring day. ChillCoat (1029), Concord, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 10, 2005 Bottled. Pours murky orange with a thick off-white head. Yeasty aroma with spicy notes and alcohol. Spicy taste with tons of malt charactor. A little alcohol warmth. Very good. lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 10, 2005 Pours a hazy golden hue with a creamy snow white head. Very lacy. Aroma is spicy and strongly citrusy. Underlying sour and yeasty aromas as well.
Taste is a subtle explosion. Spicy immediately (cloves and ginger?)followed by floral flavors. Nice citrusy and fruity backbone and underlying lemony sourness in the finish. Medium bodied with a spicy aftertaste. Refreshingly and crisply bitter finish and aftertaste. Very nice.
Definitely a very drinkable brew with a lot going on for your palate. Highly recommended.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | May 5, 2005 bottle from brickskeller. aroma hints at the character: booze, slight funky yeast presence, with a maltiness presiding. flavor is smooth, malty, but fades into a balanced, enjoyable, long-lasting aftertaste. another stellar beer from de dolle. this may be a seasonal (as the description states) but i think this one can stand the test of time easily. wunderbier (1271), Tampere, Finland
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 30, 2005 33 cL bottle, snifter. Eeek! I got a little happy with the yeast. It was a sparkling, rich gold before the yeast and now it’s a ruddy copper. Either way, the hue is nice. The head is a bit thin, but creamy and white. Very spicy hop aroma with a sweet breadish malt profile, doughy yeast, and lots of light fruits (white grapes, pear, peaches). Light alcohol note. Heavily sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter flavor becomes a moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter finish. Medium-full body, creamy texture, fizzy carbonation, trace alcohol. The bottom line is: it’s complex, and good, but...just not enough of my thing for me to think it great.
