Commercial Description:
Boskeun is the nickname of Jo, one of the two brothers who preferred to brew blond beer at home. It is a special Easter beer, one of the first real Belgian Easter beers. (Slaghmuylder's paasbier being first). It has been brewed with pale malt, Golding hops, cane sugar and refermented with native honey. As it is a seasonal beer we suggest not to keep it eternally. The name Boskeun means rabbit of the wood (virgin wood, maybe?) and the label shows it, sampling the last brew.

330ml Bottle: Aroma of mint, citrus, yeast, a hint of fruit nectar, and pepper. Poured amber/flaxen/orange in color with a large, fluffy, foamy, off-white head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Good to very good lacing. Full of tiny particles throughout. Flavor is lightly bitter. Tastes of pepper, yeast, spices, slight pale malts, and a hint of menthol. Medium body. Smooth, lightly viscous texture. Average carbonation. Pale malt, yeast, and hint of menthol finish is a tad dry. 10%ABV is undetectable.

Murky orange-brown with a thick mousse like dirty white foam and thick sheets of lacing. Aroma is zesty yeast, pears, apples, light fruits, a mix of toffee and citrus, lemons and oranges. Taste is caramels, more fruity esters, light trailing must and spice. Very creamy mouthfeel.

[2107-20090421] 330mL bottle. Sweet toasted yeast aroma. Murky, light orange brown body with a medium-lasting creamy white head and some floaties. Sweet yeasty toasted alcohol, not too boozy. Medium body. Yeasty and good.

On tap at Beer Table. Appears light gold with De Dolle’s classic huge white fluffy head. Aroma is softly yeasty with a sort of champagne-like fruitiness and an assortment of balanced spices. Flavor starts with a nice estery quality, and moves towards a spicy middle (coriander and grains of paradise?). The finish has some bitter-grass, a refreshing end to a solid Belgian ale.

Bottle split as part of a three-person tasting. Before I even got my glass, I hear WOW exclaimed, and that’s how I fell about this beer. It pours a cloudy, murky orange color with lots of yeast particles floating around. The head is white and small but lingers just a bit. It has an interesting aroma of apple, honey, and caramel apple. Did I mention apple? Flavor is malty with tons of caramel, fruit, and hop notes. Finish is long with a caramel sweetness and slight bitterness. It has a high alcohol content, but the only way that I felt it is by the heat in my through after I swallowed, not a burn, just a nice heat. This is a very complex beer, full bodied and rich with many different flavors that dance across your tongue. Again I say WOW!

Bottle - My first De Dolle beer was a real winner. This was the last beer at a three-person tasting, and it knocked all of us on our asses. The pour isn’t that impressive -- it amber with a small head and tons of floaties. Wait, that deserves capital letters because there were so many. FLOATIES! Anyways, the smell was incredible -- honey and apple. I could have smelled it all night, but I wanted to see what it tasted like. At 10% it went down waaay smooth, with caramel, sweet toffee, and a nice warm, boozy finish. It was like a fine dessert that’s sweet without being cloying. There was too much carbonation, but that’s a minor nit. What a fantastic beer -- I look forward to trying it again. That naughty little rabbit on the label demands it.

Bottle. Pours with a pale straw color and a gigantic head that quickly retreats. Nice aromas of dough and spices. Great flavors of spices, dough and some hops. Body is medium, could be a bit more fuller for my taste. Overall a nice beer.
