BiddleBrau (306), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Nov 18, 2009 Golden with dense long lasting white head and lots of visible carbonation. The aroma is pungent from a foot away, spicy, hoppy and a bit musty. Flavor is initially sharp but then tempers itself with candy sugar sweetness. The mustiness is present in the flavor as well. The sweetness is a bit cloying but the hops balance it so it’s not unpleasant. A very distinctive brew, full of passion, perhaps slightly angry? Reminds me of a few ladies I’ve met. beerbill (1936), Laurel, New York, USA Nov 15, 2009 Thanks to MaxxDaddy for sharing this at Paul’s homebrewing session yesterday. Pours a hazy gold with a white head and lots of floaties scattered about. Very pleasant aroma of yeast, citrus, spice and a little bit of funk. The flavor is yeast with a little bit of mustiness, citrus and some spice. Some mild funk and some faded hops also present in the flavor (I believe this bottle was four or five years old if I recall correctly). There is an underlying mild sweetness as well. Very good. dand645 (85), Bayonne, New Jersey, USA Nov 14, 2009 dark golden pour TONS of carbonation and head...wonderful yeast, citrus, and spicy goodness dchmela (1426), Orlando, Florida, USA Nov 13, 2009 Tap at Redlight. Pours a dark gold with a huge white head. Aroma of apples, citrus, brown sugar and clove. Taste is tart, tangy, crisp malt with candy sugar, citrus hops. Smooth drinking with a little kick of alcohol. Absolutely the best Tripel i have ever had. coldmeat23 (185), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Nov 11, 2009 Dark golden color. A little darker than I expected for a tripel, but that excites me. Very nice and tasty looking. Big foamy head with excellent retention and lacing.
Bananas and citrus scents dominate the nose. Bret yeast notes follow close behind. Notes of clove and coriander. Sweet candy scent. Almost a hint of dark cherry.(??)
Malt, in a big way. Sweet bread mixes with candy sugar. Citrus notes. Apple, pear, peach. Nice warmth from the 10% ABV, but not overdone. A light touch of hops provide a nice bit of balance.
Feels like liquid velvet, as all of the best tripels should, IMO. Lots of tiny little bubbles help provide a smooth creamy body. Wonderful.
The overall sweetness, what with the malts and candy sugars, combined with the high ABV would keep this one in my ’special occasion’ category. Not that multiples couldn’t be consumed, it’s just more special than that.
pompelmoes (25), Belgium Nov 11, 2009 Great looking golden-blond beer with a big white head sitting on top. Aroma is yeasty, malty and slight peppery with hints of green hops and herbs. You can also spot some honey and some higher alc components in the nose. Taste is very present for a Belgian blond, it has a nice peppery bite with a Duvel like taste. A full bodied golden-blond beer with a nice dry malty touch and a body warming alc feeling. A great heavy Belgian Blond. Fred82 (365), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 8, 2009 33cl bottle. Pours clear yellow with a big foamy white head. Nose is fruity yeast, spicy. Extensive lacing. Head retention is long. Very nice looking beer until the end. Quite spicy.Quite a lot of alcohol. Taste is quite yeasty with lots of spices and quite a lot of alcohol. Finish is spicy, yeasty and bitter. Rather dry. I like it. A bit too spicy and alcoholic for my taste. Very well made brew. Top quality. BritAlesRule (84), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Nov 5, 2009 Definitely gives head like Hollywood Boulevard whore. It took me almost twenty minutes to pour this thing. Absolutely yummy beer with a great nose and a perfect palate... Fresh inclosed courtyard orchard scent, very intense, Palate and actual taste is the selling point on this beer.
