| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 11, 2009 Dark golden color. A little darker than I expected for a tripel, but that excites me. Very nice and tasty looking. Big foamy head with excellent retention and lacing.
Bananas and citrus scents dominate the nose. Bret yeast notes follow close behind. Notes of clove and coriander. Sweet candy scent. Almost a hint of dark cherry.(??)
Malt, in a big way. Sweet bread mixes with candy sugar. Citrus notes. Apple, pear, peach. Nice warmth from the 10% ABV, but not overdone. A light touch of hops provide a nice bit of balance.
Feels like liquid velvet, as all of the best tripels should, IMO. Lots of tiny little bubbles help provide a smooth creamy body. Wonderful.
The overall sweetness, what with the malts and candy sugars, combined with the high ABV would keep this one in my ’special occasion’ category. Not that multiples couldn’t be consumed, it’s just more special than that.

Aroma is yeasty, malty and slight peppery with hints of green hops and herbs. You can also spot some honey and some higher alc components in the nose. Taste is very present for a Belgian blond, it has a nice peppery bite with a Duvel like taste. A full bodied golden-blond beer with a nice dry malty touch and a body warming alc feeling. A great heavy Belgian Blond. Fred82 (403), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Pours hazy orange with some floaties and a big fluffy off white head.
It has a very nice and spicy aroma with notes of orange peel, rock candy, yeast and a hint of banana, cloves and grapes.
The flavour is sweet with some bitterness as well and got notes of spices, yeast, malt and hops.

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Oct 29, 2009 (My first beer rated since our first-born son, Alexander Dean, joined the family on October 17. Cheers to momma and Xander!) Bottled, courtesy of Narnad, who provided us two bottles (one for me, one for mom). Moderately cloudy, browned orange in color. Frothy white head is absolutely huge, leaving thick, sticky lacing. Musty and yeasty nose, some ripened plums and dates, nutmeg, banana peel, cloves and peach pit. Some decent black pepper spiciness to the nose as well. Floral, yet spicy flavor, nice estery sweetness with vanilla malts, hints of raspberry and candied ginger. Very soft, pillowy carbonation. Finish is dry with some wheat tangyness, a touch too dry for my tastes, and I get a little too much alcohol at the end. But overall, a darn near perfect tripel. Tasty and truly enjoyable.
