Commercial Description:
Dolle Dulle Teve Special Reserva 2004 is a special version of De Dolle's Dulle Teve, which has been matured for over 24 months in wooden casks previously used by Etienne Dupont/France to mature his famous Calvados de Normandie. The over two year maturation in those wooden casks has allowed De Dolle Dulle Teve to mellow, lose its agressive carbonation and dryness, and develop a new balance of flavors triggered by the tannin, vanilla and butterscotch flavors of E.Dupont's Calvados casks. In addition the "invisible" Calvados hidden in the wood itself has pushed the alcohol of De Dolle Dulle Teve Special Reserva to about 12% to 13%

I don’t have much of anything good to say about this beer. It’s really boring and uninteresting. Mostly just alot of yeast and alcohol in both aroma and flavor. The bottle that was tasted was said to be not quite as good as a bottle tasted the night before by BBB63, but I don’t know how much better it could have been. I can’t compare this to the standard version as I haven’t had it, but I would like to. As far as triple, this is the worst I’ve had.

Bottle, 2005 RBSG. Head is initially large, frothy, light brown, fully lasting. Body is hazy medium yellow. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread/grain, cookie), lightly hoppy (flowers, herbs), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of pineapple, clove, vanilla, apple. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. There’s not much I can say about De Dolle that I haven’t said in every other review. Kris rocks, that’s all you need to know.

Poured a hazy gold color with a long lasting white head and nice lines of bubbles racing from the "D" on the bottom of the Duvel glass. The beer starts tart and fruity with a liquor finish. Very warming with peppery alcohol present.

Finally got my hands on this!!! Thanks to Mike at Bon Vivant for getting the supposed "only case in Virginia". Pours a lovely reddish amber with spirals of bubbles winding and twsting throughout its body. The head seems a bit compact after its initial overflow of carbonation. Small and a bit off-white with larger bubbles emanating from the center. Nose is sweet and laden with apples, grapes, light wood, alcohol, and Belgian yeast. Lots of spice coming through on this as well. Taste is woody and fruity with lots of yeast, alcohol, spices, and sweet candyish notes. A bit less impressive than expected, but still great nonetheless. The body is alive and very carbonated. Lots of champagne like bubbles throughout this. Mild alcohol warmth as well. Finish is alcohol, green apples, light grapes, mild citric tartness, wood notes, yeast and spices. As I pour the rest of the bottle into my glass, the body becomes murky and speckled with bits of sediment. Overall this is very good. As some mentioned, it’s a bit gimmicky, but still is recommended.

Clear, brilliant copper in color. Audibly fizzy with white fuzzy fluff and beautiful artesian lacing. Aroma is awesome - nice juxtaposition angling for complexity, with apricots, cider, pomegranates, green grapes, pepper, lemons and cloves being most prominent. Big time flavor whomph. Taste that oak cask. Vibrant flavor overcomes the inherent smoothness imparted from the aging process. Feisty pears and apple cider placate the taste buds, along with a prevailing orange/citric alcohol current that’s subconsciously signing “Cointreau.” Spiciness is to a tee, with coriander, pepper and lavender coinciding with an aggressive herbal nature. Fizzy and palate-driven. Impeccable balance. Finish is daunting, challenging and reminiscent of orange rind, sweet malts and raw sugar. I love it.

Poured slightly hazy golden sunshine with huge pillowy long lasting head. Decent notes of vinous friutiness and a tad of floral. Tasted of yeast, bread, and mild alcohol. Allright for a try but the original MadBitch is much better and cheaper.

Interesting enough. Not incredible, but interesting. Overcarbonated. Huge head that keeps coming. Nose of wine and roses, as well as typical tripel scents of yeast and alcohol. Could use a couple more years in the bottle. But has potential. Nice pinkish gold color. Taste is a bit winey with some tart fruits coming through. Bread and yeast. Nice.

Bottle: Loaded with apple with some wine-like aromas, and grape. An alcohol smell burns the nose a little. Pours a cloudy reddish-orange with lots of sediment. Small off-white head has a little staying power. Fruity flavors of apple and grape and some vinous tendencies as well. Alcohol is very strong in the finish and with a strong acidity as well, it burns the palate with every sip. Alcohol has too much of a presence in flavor and warmth to be very enjoyable. The regular Dull Teve is outstanding, but this is just an alcohol mess. I don’t know if it’s the beer warming, or my palate adjusting, or maybe my palate is just burned out, but the alcohol burn starts to diminish while the flavor increases. Aging could do wonders, but it’s already been aging since 2003 and is still very hot, so it may be some time before it mellows out. Incredibley overrated and the destuction of an excellent beer. This has no business having an overall rating similar to the regular version.
