Commercial Description:
Dolle Dulle Teve Special Reserva 2004 is a special version of De Dolle's Dulle Teve, which has been matured for over 24 months in wooden casks previously used by Etienne Dupont/France to mature his famous Calvados de Normandie. The over two year maturation in those wooden casks has allowed De Dolle Dulle Teve to mellow, lose its agressive carbonation and dryness, and develop a new balance of flavors triggered by the tannin, vanilla and butterscotch flavors of E.Dupont's Calvados casks. In addition the "invisible" Calvados hidden in the wood itself has pushed the alcohol of De Dolle Dulle Teve Special Reserva to about 12% to 13%

Just by chance, Kris Herteleer was working May 12th. My wife and I showed up at the brwey and we were given a personal tour. Aftrewards, he gave me a bottle of this to try. I did not even know this existed before I saw it. Fantastically exciting beer. Very strong, lots of alcohol (peppery), but with a dryish apple note. This had a tremendous amount of carbonation, a geyser of a beer. The color was slightly more darker gold than the regular Dulle Teve. He told me that the alcohol was higher than the lable stated due to it’s aging.

12 oz bottle from hopdog (thanks!).Pours a semi clear orange/amber with huge fluffy white head with no staying power. Nose is candy sweet and a little fruity. Taste is quite unique. Starts candy sweet, then quickly some peach flavors, some wood, and even quicker a brandy like finish. Not detecting any hops in this one. Body is full and carbonation is quite high. This brewery’s stuff is usually either off the charts in a positive or negative way for me, but this one is actually just in between. I think it would be very good if it was not so hot. Since this is a 2003 (4 year old) bottle, it really should not be this hot....

Bottle thanks to madsberg. A hazy orange beer with a white head. The aroma is sweet malty, spicy, fruity and like bubble gum. The taste is sweet malty, spicy , fruity, light alcoholic and wood. Medium to full body with a dry, alcoholic finish.

(Bottle 33 cl) Courtesy of madsberg/boboski. Pours a hazy golden with an off-white head. Lightly tart aroma. Quite full-bodied, sweetish fruity with very delicate and subtle notes of wood. Has a very warming alcohol in the finish. A nice one. 270607

#600. Bottled in 2005. Served in a Duvel tulip @ 58°. Pours orange tinted golden with a massive head that dies down fairly quickly. Large, dark specks sink to the bottom of the glass and a thick coating of yeast is left in the bottle. Aroma’s of citrus, apple (wonderful), vanilla, black pepper, wood (mild) & alcohol. The aroma is heavenly. The initial taste is apple, vanilla, spice and yeast followed by a strong rush of alcohol, black pepper, and spice. The finish is warming->hot with a lingering taste of calvados. With this much alcohol, the starting temp should have been 10° less to tame the alcohol, shame on me. Additional notes: The more I drink the beer, the more I get a real sense of sweetness early on, very reminiscent of the ice ciders I had while in Montreal. The sweetness is short lived due to the alcohol and the beer is far from cloying.

Deep golden straw body with moderate carbonation and a silky white head. Very complex aroma with notes of apple brandy, sweet honey, vanilla, orange esters, and spicy phenols. Flavor is medium sweet with a nice malt backbone, soft aromatic yeast properties, and nice pleasant contributions from the Calvados. Reminds me of poached pears. Light spice and herbal bitterness lend some good balance. Very distinct and unique with great depth of character. Thanks to Ernest.
