Joen (7), Zeist, Netherlands does not count Nov 7, 2009 33 cl bottle. Beige head with dense foam. Sweet aroma with a hint of liquorice. A roasted malt flavour with coffee tones. The rush in the mout ens with a bitter wave and the coffee tones stay a bit longer and get caught up with a soure tone.
After decapping the bottle it started gushing changeup45 (782), Orlando, Florida, USA Nov 6, 2009 Bottle from Knightly. Not quite black, a deep brown color (although looks black once in the glass) and pours with a thick tan head with nice retention. The aroma is charcoal, leather, vanilla, wood, definitely some campfire smokey scent in there. Flavors are peppery and roasty but easy drinking and even a tad thin. The flavors do pick up with a lot of what’s going on in the aroma, tobacco, wood, smoke with the addition of chocolate, black coffee, and caramel. Not all that complex. I’d say this one is good but not great. gyllenbock (234), Stockholm, Sweden Nov 5, 2009 Bottle.
Beautiful dark color with a brownish rather thick foam. A lot of coffee in the aroma also vanilla, burnt malt, caramel and licorice. The taste was dominated by coffee, not so much chocolate as you might have expected. Clearly a tasty stout that was enjoyable to drink.
kwerikson (61), burlington, New Jersey, USA Nov 3, 2009 pours out super thick and black like an overpowering dark roast coffee with a very thick lumpy tan mocha colored head that produces thick lacing. the body is black as night with no light passing through whats so ever. the aromas are kind of sweet with hints of coffee and dark chocolate with a tiny hint of the spicyness from the hops and alcohol. i can also scoop the head out and literaly eat it with a spoon, its that thick(and i really did it). it is really full bodied and has a nice hoppy hit in the begining with a roasted coffee and chocolate body coming through as the main flavours with a little bit of sugar. it finishes with bitter sweet caramel and pale malt and has a wonderful aftertaste that is meant to be savored and i do savor it. finol (474), Nacka (Stockholm), Sweden Oct 31, 2009 Bottle from Ölbutikken, Copenhagen.
Vionous aroma with more similaritys with a barley wine than a stout.
Dry chocolate taste.
A dissapointment from De Dolle. patrickfannon (271), Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 19, 2009 Bottle. 11.2 oz. Pours deep brown with a tall, mighty, frothy beiege head. Aroma of spice, espresso, roasted malt, vanilla, chive, and hints of pepper. Full body with a sturdy, bold moutfeel. Powerful, warm finish. Excellent stout. DeeBee21 (44), NH, New Hampshire, USA Oct 16, 2009 Thick toffe color pillowy head. Dark chocolatey brown color. Aroma of dark chocolates and dark candies hints of hazelnuttiness vanilla and caramel sweetness. Lots of fizz at front very dry nutty flavors little tartness in there as well as it warms it finishes a little smoother and sweeter with the vanilla and caramel notes coming out
Jblauvs (528), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Oct 16, 2009 Dark brown/Black pour with very lively pillowy beige head that lasts forever. Aroma is Dark malt, chocolate, hazelnut and yeasty, a bit of vanilla as well. Flavor starts off with vanilla and a bit of booze and melds into a nice chocolate roastiness.
Note: as this warms more flavors come out including a subdued tart sourness and some tobacco
