This is a truly wonderful take on this style. Has a rich roasted coffee aroma, with some molasses and licorice and just a hint of dry earthy chicory. Roasted almonds and creamy, bready maltiness. This is a really delicious taste experience.

A very black colored beer, with a huge beige head. An aroma of coffee and chocolate. The taste of dark roasted malts and a lot of smoked notes. Very dry and bitter in the back, with a long after taste. Good beer but not my favorite.

Bottle. Pours a deep ebony with hints of auburn around the thinning edges when up against a light. The enormous head is a medium tan. I have never seen a head like this before. Even poured gently, it creates a ridiculous amount. There are some strong dark fruit notes in the nose with some weird abrasive tinges that reminds me of tequila, and I absolutely hate tequila. Other aromas like some cocoa and toffee are noticeable. But man, that tinge is strong. As soon as the brew hits the tongue, head just explodes again. It’s very carbonated and slightly oily. Sourness is instantly apparent as some espresso notes appear. Sourness seems to not to be as attributed to many fruits. It’s more like a candy sourness, like a warhead. There are notes of darker fruits in here as well. The intense carbonated action on the tongue is a bit distracting, though. As the brew passes the tongue, a sweet toffee complements the explosion of cocoa and roasted coffee notes. The finish is mildly dry. The finish is strong and actually quite good. This is interesting, but there are so many things in this brew that’s just bugging me.

Pours a deep black with a small head with good retention. Nice aniseed aroma, candy, complex and roasty. Tastes of coffee and dark cocoa, slightly roasty with a porter-like sweetness. Thick and creamy body but slightly overcarbonated. Not completely blended or balanced, but a compelling beer all the same. Many thanks to Boutip for the trade!

Bottle, courtesy of me. Pours pure black with tan head. Strong roasty malt aroma, toffee, caramel, chocolate. Alcoholic nose. Flavor is heavy on the malt, more roasted and burnt flavors than other stouts I’ve tried. Almost a sharpness to the taste, but balance by malty sweetness.
