Looks deep mahagony black with a creamy, frothy three finger head that dissipates to a small head that lingers. This one has a pretty complex aroma i think. Seems there are some dark fruits and chocolate with roasted malts and licorice. The aromas are pretty muted though mostly dark fruits and some alcohol. Prickly and bitter....hmm. Strange. This doesn’t seem very balanced at all. Each sip is slightly different from the last. Sometimes I get some nice chocolate flavors and then the next sip is really hoppy/bitter with the next sip being somewhat tart and yeasty. Slightly warming. yngwie (4974), Kristiansand, Norway
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours with a big, foamy beige head, too big actually, and a black body. Chocolate, roasted malt, sugar, berries and a touch of yeast in the aroma. Rather dry, effervescent, slightly warming in the mouth, with flavors of chocolate, dark sugar and some burnt malt. Even though there’s this warming sensation, the flavors of alcohol is well hidden. A nice Belgian stout. (080118) gunnfryd (3601), Kristiansand, Norway

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Mar 13, 2008 Abundance of carbonation is apparent upon opening because it slightly gushed over the lip of the bottle. The beer poured a black with a large tan head that was unstable and thus dissipated. Aroma is bitter chocolate and licorice, upon the first sniff it seemed to be estery and spicy, with rich roasted notes as well. But the aroma was never quite the same. Kind of vinous with alcohol and licorice. The flavor is okay, but I expected better. Its lacking the maltiness and richness. Flavor is just kind licorice and bitter chocolate, but because of the carbonation, it can never quite sit on the tongue right to allow the flavors to sit right on your tongue. This being said the mouth feel is over carbonated for a stout, and is thus thin, again making the beer lack a rich feeling. My least favorite De Dolle beer, but its still not awful.

Black, small beige head. Toffee aroma. Rich burnt taste - very aromatic hops and winey too. Massive burnt aftertaste. JohnQPublic (387), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 11, 2008 Updated: Jun 3, 2008Bottle. Massive head, extremely carbonated. Nose of roasted malt mixed with fruit. Classic stout favors of coffee and roasted malts overshadowed by fruity sourness, hints of apricot turned to dark cherry as the beer warmed. Interesting and tasty beer.
RERATE: had this beer again a couple of months later, focus was much more on the dark, roasted coffee flavors, more bitterness, without the fruity aspects. Preferred the first. SDalkoholic (1196), Chula Vista, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 9, 2008 11.2 oz bottle from South Bay Drugs & Liquor. With only a soft and gentle pour this stout created a glass full of thick tanned foam and took several minutes before it turned into a liquid pitch black. For the aroma, it was pure scent of roasted malts and a touch of sweet foreign chocolate. The initial flavor is a tart and slightly sourness which then follows with roasty dark malt that suggest cocoa beans. One healthy tasting stout. SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA
