Aroma of spice, chocolate malt, dark fruit, berries and figs. Very carbonated up front with lots of chocolate maltiness, followed by a smooth balance of spice and dark fruit. Lots of berry and fig. Dry sweet finish. Very complex and quit tasty! SQNfan (591), Wheaton, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 3, 2008 No formal notes taken. Almost black in color this poured a thick head that consistently faded. Aromas were rather sweet and showed off yeast and nuts along with a backbone of chocolate. Lots of carbonation kept this feeling light on the palate. CapedBrewsader (261), Brasschaat, Belgium

Chocolate roast with an herbal twang. Tree bark and green twigs. Bitter on the tongue with roast and green bitterness (possibly herbal). Sweet pasty dough sprinkled with ground coffee. Seemed better in the past. Was there a recipe change? mike1977ok (648), Netherlands

Thick, lucious head with texture and colour of clotted cream. Massive amounts of toasted/burnt malts come through making this really bitter. Smooth and unctuous throughout. dm9831 (1168), Monee, Illinois, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 2, 2008 Pours black with tan head. Nutty aroma with heavy yeast notes, chocolate, lactose, and some coffee. Lots of candied sugar in the flavor makes this an extremely sweet stout. Licorice, dark chocolate, dark fruits, vinous notes, and coffee also apparent. Flavor is also sour, which makes this stout extremely unique, though not altogether a great stout. On second thought, the sweet/sour and chocolate combination is actually pretty well pulled off. Extremely interesting, albeit confusing. Bontus (310), Waasmunster, Belgium

Extremely dark and dense appearance.
Darkish head is everlasting.
Had a hard time drinking it because of it’s aroma’s. Mainly coffee, chocolate and yeast.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 27, 2008 Pours a dark brown with a very large dark tan head. Interesting, sweet dark chocolate with the Belgian yeast. A lot of carbonation hits the tounge. Surprisingly easy to drink. Interesting, but not what I really look for in a stout.
