Aroma is raspberry, chocolate, anise. Flavor is pine, molasses, coffee, chocolate, dried fruit. This is on the drier side with well blended alcohol. beerbiere (101), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 7, 2008 Black in color, big fluffy head. Nose of first grade coffee (yemen?), maple and nuts, chocolate. Flavor is its feature I like the most for its roastiness, but mostly its tangy acidity (lactic), not too far from being funky, delicate yet powerfull bitterness and a good lenght. Definitely not on the sweet side. Easy to drink, no sign of alcohol. Creamy texture, finishes dry. My reference in terms of foreing stout. I have never had any beer that compares. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 6, 2008 Enormous head! Bubbled up over the top of the glass eve. Smell is of cake batter and brownie mix. Loads of chocolate with coffee and espresso notes on the tongue. Quite vinous finish, which means this bottle could have some age on it. The candi sugar is a beautiful touch, and adds greatly to the already creamy nature of this stout. I’d call it an Imperial Milk, Minus the Lactose, Stout. The mouthfeel is very carbonated and full. Gotta love these new school Belgian stouts. Did you know back in the day in Belgium they used to drink, for breakfast, stout with a raw egg in the glass? I know what I’m waking up with from here on out. Great brew! ubamartian (155), Watertown, Wisconsin, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jan 4, 2008 Bottle. Pours Dark Black. The largest tan head I have ever seen. a quarter glass ’boiled’ over the top of the glass! It was even worse than Duvel. Ok, aroma, sour and alcohol. Flavor is mild sour with some roasted malts coming through. Good flavor, but the sour is a bit overpowering. Mouthfeel is bubbles on bubbles and champagne thin. I think I got a bad bottle. Same as yobdoog and crizay. I can tell it would be a good brew if the sour and (not so) tiny bubbles were taken care of. I wasted 5 dollars on this one.... ARGH! yobdoog (1460), Woodridge NY, New York, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 2, 2008 Almost every bottle I get has way too much carbonations, mount vesuvios style. Sweet taste, a lingering bite at the end and some odd aroma. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jan 1, 2008 Black pour, huge tan gusher of a head. Aroma is sour and roasty. Flavor is the same roasty but with a twangy sourness that probably shouldn’t be there. Chocolate and coffee with a chalky dryness but again some sweet sourness resides that shows it’s probably infected. It really doesn’t taste horrible but the way it gushed and sourness shows it’s not right. Jerre (1755), Waregem, Belgium
