The nose is musty, with dark dried fruit, yeast and hints of caramel mixed with dark chocolate. the taste is largely dark roasted malt, hints of burnt chocolate and sugars. Good flavor but not balanced with enough sweetness. wetherel (1641), Encinitas, California, USA

It’s really a sight to see. Guinness would be proud. Very mild aroma. Musty. Maybe a bit of chocolate and banana. Some residual sweet, and some tart dryness, but not too much to be unpleasant. Mild alchohol presence, reducing drinkability slightly. Not so much hop bitterness, but more of a bitter chocolate bitterness. Lots of flavor, but I wish it had more sweetness. Had the pleasure of enjoying this beer over the weekend, and might I say it was amazing. The pour was rich chocolate with a light brown head that lasted. The aroma was like walking into fall, dark fruit and espresso. This is definitely a beer that coats the mouth, making sure all the taste buds get a chance to experience something. nick76 (2688), Tampa, Florida, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 1, 2007 Bottle from River’s Bend. Poured a black color with a huge frothy brown head that lasted and produced good lacing. Good roasted malt and dark fruit aroma. Full body with a smooth sticky texture. Complex roasted dark fruit stout flavor with a medium bittersweet smooth finish of moderate duration. Very well balanced dark fruity stout. xibalba89 (147), New York, New York, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 31, 2007 Pours black with a thick, brown-tinged head. The aroma is complex and consists of two-levels: the first that hits me is the deep chocolate and yeast that hits the nose like a wall. The second is the lighter topside, which features the yeasts and light hops... great! Similar to Dogfish Head’s stout, but without the DFH’s unique yeast character. The flavor is very different from the dogfish head... lots of dry and bitter hops on the front, melting away into burnt caramel, coffee and burnt honey. Very grainy, but still smooth due to the finish. Not too sweet. Aftertaste has lots of dark fruits that leave you dreaming of exotic Lovecroftian lands with strange and beautiful foliage. Really excellent beer... one of the better stouts I’ve ever had. JensenTaster (1588), Denmark
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Oct 30, 2007 (on bottle( Quite disapointed here. Very black, light, beige head. Powerfull and winerous aroma, dark sugar, dark berries and a bit of toast. Not a very full body and an odd fruity-sour taste of the malts, like rotten stuff. And on top it was followed up by an almost acidic finish. Better check it again, some day
