| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 15, 2007 I was intrigued to see this; a Belgian stout?! The beer poured almost black with a huge aroma of roasted coffee and chocolate, with a bit of that Belgian candy sugar as well. The taste is chocolate, with coffee and nut characteristics thrown in. An incredibly well-crafted brew whose smoothness belies both the power and the alcohol content of the beer. De Dolle is one of my favorite breweries, and this does not the least bit disappoint. jefcon (1009), Arlington, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 13, 2007 Very dark in the glass with white chocolate aromas. Very dry throughout, aromas, flavor, palate. Nutty and roasted notes dominate. Some chocolate and coffee. More coffe, though. Really light and sensual for a stout. A marvel of flavor. Well balanced. The dark candy sugar really shows though. BeerBelcher (945), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 13, 2007 My notes got a bit sparser as this was the last beer of my evening, but I clearly remember the opaqueness of this beer. Aroma was of licorice and was a bit musty. Flavor was extremely grape-y and the beer had a very dry mouthfeel, much like a very astringent cabernet. not bad. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 9, 2007 Pours black with a monstrous, well retained light brown head. Very thick and foamy. Very roasty aroma with hints of sourness and some funk in typical De Dolle fashion. Pretty much what I was expecting here. The taste is very similar to the smell. You get the light sweetness and sourness right up front, but it slowly turns to roast and some chcolate in the finish and coats the palate with some roasty malt flavor in the aftertaste. The alcohol is masked quite brillinatly actually. Really interesting beer, not something I want to drink all the time, but a truly enjoyable beer once in a while.
