The aroma was very sweet candy like, many hints of liquorice, caramel, and roasted malt. The taste was similar and very impressive. Not to mention its name is a tongue twister if I ever seen one. stouby (1950), Holbaek, Denmark

Dark brown with a very large light brown head. Aroma heavy malty (dark fruits, licorice, chocolate, brown sugar), light hoppy. Flavor heavy sweet, light bitter. Medium to full body, normal carbonated. goozen (1088), Leiden, Netherlands

Flavors of roasted malt, chocolate, and a strange dark fruit. Mouthfeel is thin for the style. footy (334), scottsdale, Arizona, USA

Belgian yeasty aroma upfront with some chocolate in the background. Sweet with some quadruple characteristics. Wish I had a hercule stout at the same time to compare them side by side. I poured in just a splash to my tulip glass, and the whole glass seemed to instantly fill with caramel-colored foam. No liquid whatsoever. 15 minutes later, the beer was finally emptied into the glass, and I was ready to drink it! Strong coffee in both the aroma and the flavor. Malty, kind of smoky. Thin on the palate. Not great, probably the worst De Dolle beer I’ve had. kmweaver (2474), Sebastopol, California, USA

Pours a dark brown center; white head with fine-bubbled lacing. Milk chocolate, tartness, and vanilla in the aroma. Lively carbonation; medium-to-full mouthfeel: plenty of roasted malts, dark chocolate; tart, vanilla and burnt malt character. Long, dark chocolate and funky vanilla finish. Tasty stuff. mhelgason (495), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 13, 2007 Bottle. Poured black with a abundant tan head that began to dissapate after pour; left a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, and butterscotch. Flavor of chotolate and some coffee notes. A bit more carbonation than I would have preferred but it could be the style.
