Stale chocolate, vinous and butterscotch alcohol. Sweet raisins and prunes greet the surprised taste buds. Light pith drying leads to a black coffee finish with some black licorice and yeasty sour. Odd stuff. piscator34 (1131), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 11, 2007 Thanks to lubiere for the sample. Jet black in colour with spritzy strong carbonation. Strong fruit and booze aromas with some coffee and caramel notes bringing up the rear. Berries and plums are the first flavors I detect, with some nut and espresso flavors mingling in. A touch of molassas is in there too. Some malt sweetness is apparent, but the strong carbonation lightens up the body quite a bit. Stylistically spot on. motelpogo (4395), Plzen, Czech Republic
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Feb 11, 2007 gahl06, bottle - must have been a dodgy one. ridiculously fizzy, black. loads of alcohol in the nose - brandy, vermouth, hints of sultanas. quite thin, lacking much stout character, aftertaste of pear schnapps. will have to try this one again some time as i can’t believe it was meant to taste this way Harsebrau (164), Kansas City, Missouri, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Feb 7, 2007 Updated: Apr 23, 2008The most recent (winter 2007) batch: silky smooth and complex stout, a world apart from the old wine-like recipe, like comparing a Harvey’s 2003 to a Yeti.
The new one is one of the best stouts I’ve ever had, velvet body with awesome roasted flavors, very dry and bitter and a long finish. After a while, it reveals all kinds of spiciness, cherry, chocolate, cognac. Up there with the best USA (imperial) stouts! RichardGretton (3154), Leicestershire, England
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 6, 2007 Bottle. Black beer with a frothy brown head. The aroma is deeply roasted and the flavour is very bitter and roasted dry. Overall probably too strong for my taste. dunkpigen (328), Kolding, Denmark
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 6, 2007 Hmmm... first of all a very very nice beer. It is quite different from your average stout, but also quite difficult to describe. It is a bit fruity, which is very refreshing, but you still have the feeling of a stout - creamy and full, together with a fruity and carbonated feel. It is a stout you no doubt could enjoy on a hot summerday! (Bottle) thewolf (5801), Kolding, Denmark
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Feb 6, 2007 Updated: Jun 11, 2007Bottle. Pours a nice opaque black with a big beige head that appears bubbly, but forms a creamy feel. Aroma is wonderful. Initially fruity, berries, then turns a little musky with a chocolate backbone. Quite spritzy in your mouth, but it still manages to feel creamy. Extremely complex flavour. It kind of feels like a saison/lambic while it is in your mouth (fruity and a touch sour), turning into a nice chocolate stout as you swallow. Berries, chocolate, plums, a touch of coffee. Stunning.
