Big fizzy coffee coloured head takes along time to quit. Very dark brown hue. Mild coffee and roast nose with a slight metallic ping. Nothing to write home about. Quite true to the genre to taste. Roasted malts drive the palate, feels a touch rough and tastes quite dry. Medium strengh despite the 9% and to be honest needs a bit more hapening with the flavours to ge me really excited. Very black beer with a lovely creamy brown head that lasts and lasts. Aroma is quite sweet and shows licorice, plum, chocolate and a touch of soy. Also shows loads of fruitiness (cherry, plum) along with a smattering of dried fruit (raisins, figs, dates). Toasted nuttiness as well. The overall impression is of a slice of fruitcake with chocolate sauce. A bit of roastiness behind all of the sweet malts and esters. It starts out quite fizzy but a few swirls help diminish that back to a lovely creamy soft texture. Warming intensifies the sweet plumminess. There is also a touch of tartness on the back of the palate along with some light molasses and roasted barley. Very unique and quite tasty.

Bottle. Black, fizzy pour that forms a massive brown head of froth. I’m pretty sure you could sculpt this head however you wanted. Aromas are complex and pleasant. I’m picking up molasses, chocolate, prunes and maybe some peat in the background. Flavor is much more sour than I expected... really tart. After the initial shock of it all, I kind of like it. As the pucker gives way to a coffee roastiness I’m pretty pleased. Very different with the tartness up front, but quite interesting and worth trying.

Almost murky black with fine thick creamy fully lasting white head. Aroma of dark roasted malts. Coffee & chocolate. A vinous sweet aroma as well. Fizzy carbonation - lively mouthfeel. Yeasty dolle feel. Full body. Taste of bitter hops & chocolate. Little liquirice also. This and Ellezelloise Hercule, is without a doubt the two best stouts from Belgium! Really great!

11.2 oz bottle. Pours a very dark murky brown color with an enormous foamy brown head. Aroma if of dark chocolate, coffee and sweet liquor. Alcohol is present in the air. Taste is full of dark chocolate, malt coffee and a slight hint of alcohol. A nice bitter finish. Very good.

bottle. Mmmm a blend of a belgium and an imperial stout, de shiznit!! Very sweet nose of malts & sugar. The bitterness begins in the end... but I don’t get much coffee. I’ve been blown away by De Dolle so far... amazing brewers! Found this at Brawley’s in Charlotte, NC, check ’em out.

33 cl. Thanks, Luiss, even though I can get this beer locally! Pours a murky brownish black, opaque, with a towering, slow-to-fall thick, bubbly, moussy tan head. Waiting for the head to fall essentially means that this beer comes with a warm up band. Thick cherries and chocolate on the nose, maybe even a hint of oatmeal or white sugar there, too. Big roast and chocolate and plum notes hit you on the attack, and the body and carb are in the medium range (working harmoniously rather than calling attention to themselves). Unfortunately (unless you’re a real lover of the traditions of foreign and dry stouts), there’s quite a lot of sour, dry, metallic and chalk business, especially at the end. Neither refreshing nor warming...I never know what to say to these beers about where they’ll fit in, but I know somebody loves them. They just have to keep being themselves. Sometimes that conventional wisdom really is best.
