Pours a murky brownish black, opaque, with a towering, slow-to-fall thick, bubbly, moussy tan head. Waiting for the head to fall essentially means that this beer comes with a warm up band. Thick cherries and chocolate on the nose, maybe even a hint of oatmeal or white sugar there, too. Big roast and chocolate and plum notes hit you on the attack, and the body and carb are in the medium range (working harmoniously rather than calling attention to themselves). Unfortunately (unless you’re a real lover of the traditions of foreign and dry stouts), there’s quite a lot of sour, dry, metallic and chalk business, especially at the end. Neither refreshing nor warming...I never know what to say to these beers about where they’ll fit in, but I know somebody loves them. They just have to keep being themselves. Sometimes that conventional wisdom really is best. BitchesBrew (710), Berkeley, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 25, 2006 [bottle] Pours almost black, with a gigantic coffee-colored head. Aroma is sweet and malty. Flavors are very dark roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and a touch of licorice. Finishes with a bit of hops. Alcohol is well hidden. Very good stuff. Grovlam (3809), Copenhagen, Denmark
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Dec 19, 2006 Bottle. Pitch black hue with a huge and creamy head. Light brown colored head which was fully lasting and left some excellent lacing. Minutes after pouring this one, I thought the creamy foam wouldn’t go away…talk about long lasting! Aroma was quit complex with bearing notes being chocolate, coffee, rye bread, nutty and roasted notes. Some vanilla and brown sugar is also evident in mouth feel. Very vinous in bouquet and taste as well. Palate was very full bodied with a creamy texture. Carbonation as soft. Initial flavor was moderated bitter-sweet, very well balanced. Finish is again moderated bitter-sweet. First try at a Foreign Stout and what a present surprise! JJClark (545), Roscoe, Illinois, USA

Pours a rich dark brown color with a monster tan head that last forever. Aroma is of sweet malts and fresh bread dough then you get a wiff of the fermented fruit. Taste is of malt and spices. Finishes with a bit of a dry hop flavor. Nice complex brew.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 15, 2006 Pours almost black with one hell of a HUGE head (and we’re talkin John Holmes tackle) the damn thing took 10 mins to pour. Aroma is chock full of coffee and the darkest of chocolate, a lively mouthfeel and a big espresso bitter taste with no hint of the 9%. Stouts are not my fave style but this is amoungst the best. henrikb (1303), Aarhus, Denmark
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 13, 2006 Black body with a brown edge, medium size bubbles in a light brown head; Quite small nose with fruity coffee, brown bread and dried fruit; Huge (to much) big bubbled carbonation in a body with quite a bit of fruity acidity, mixed with a thin butter texture; The fruity acidy grows in a long finish that is a bit thin and dry, aromas of a burnt stout, burnt chocolate and some licorice. sunevdj (1774), Copenhagen OE, Denmark

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 8, 2006 Craziest damn beer I’ve ever had. I’ve been really into American craft beer and this is one of my first experiments witht the Belgian stuff. I’d say a cross between a very heavy Chimay and Guiness for the flavor. The foam is the thickest I’ve ever seen and it took 15 minutes for it to level out. When I scooped some of it up it had the consistency of cool whip. I’d like to try it again after I’ve had some more Belgian beers because the wild yeast is something totally different.
