| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 8, 2006 Craziest damn beer I’ve ever had. I’ve been really into American craft beer and this is one of my first experiments witht the Belgian stuff. I’d say a cross between a very heavy Chimay and Guiness for the flavor. The foam is the thickest I’ve ever seen and it took 15 minutes for it to level out. When I scooped some of it up it had the consistency of cool whip. I’d like to try it again after I’ve had some more Belgian beers because the wild yeast is something totally different. EithCubes (2151), Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 8, 2006 Bottle. Sweet sherry nose. Light chocolate, lactose, and possibly peat. Nigh uncontrollable pour, deep dark but still translucent red supporting a massive creamy, lacy-clingy thick light brown head - prep the spoon. Quite a beautiful presentation. Taste is light roast and chocolate and heavy malt with light nuttiness and even a bit of licorice. Very brief touch of candy sugar. Dry, roasty, slightly gritty end. Touch of yeast and caramel. Medium fruitiness of indeterminate origin. Bitterness is restrained, finish has light hops and wispy fruitiness. Pleasant lingering creamy aftertaste. Medium body. Alcohol is totally concealed, the only hint from taste is the slight warming at the back of the cheek-jawbone area. Balanced and mature - just excellent. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 2, 2006 Bottle. Good sweet roasted malty aroma with molasses and spicy notes. Monster frothy head on the pour, dissipating fairly quickly. Color is dark brownish black. Intense flavor. Acidic and sharp up front. Mellows out to a coffee finish. Bittersweet. Citrus qualities linger on the tongue. Flavor changes a lot in the mouth. Very interesting brew. I liked it except for the initial sharpness. Very good overall though and improves as your mouth acclimates to it. MadIndian (997), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA

Dark brown pour with fluffy tan long lasting head. Roasted caramel malt and belgian spices tickle your nose.Flavor was a bit complex but chocolate/caramel/roast and spice were apparent. Excellent brew. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 29, 2006 Ridiculous abundance of tawny foam. Every little pour reinvigorates the head to billowing out of the glass, and it was five mins to get a reasonably full glass. Deep inky black. Held up to the light, I see not a glimmer of light even around the edges. Sharp, dry roast flavor, bright and brash. Coffee, and a vapoury rummy quality, a bit of molassas, and a beguilingly gentle finish. A near perfect realization of British style by Belgian brewers, and a fine, fine beer, full of swagger and sass. OKBeer (1159), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 28, 2006 330 ml bottle from Sam’s in Chicago. Deep, dark mahogany colour with a mostly lasting rocky tan head that just explodes when the beer hits the glass. Aroma starts fruity, currant and vinous, then builds to a roasty acidity that includes dark chocolate, cherries, and cappaccino, plus just a wisp of alcohol. Predominant acidity and fruit flavours, but there’s a lot happening in here - fresh cherries covered in dark chocolate with chocolate covered coffee beans instead of a pit, and a glass of port to wash it down. Medium to full bodied, creamy smooth, and very drinkable. Glorious.
