Aroma of roast, coffee, chocolate, and fruit. Flavor is roasted malt, espresso, chocolate, berries, and licorice. Ever so slightly tart on the finish, but this is not a bad thing. Palate medium with high carbonation for the style. An awesome stout. madvike (346), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Your beers surprise and delight me every time I pop them. I only wish you were more accessible and cheaper. Of course, you have to pay to get quality. But I digress...
Pours black with a massive brown head. This sucker nearly gushed on me as it opened with a huge pffft! Smells of molasses, vanilla, lactose, brown sugar and raisins. It’s smooth and sweet with just a little heat. Tastes mostly the same, though it’s a bit hard to pin down. There’s some whiskeyish heat in there, but not much for 9%. Medium roast with an odd sour/lactic characteristic that really grew on me. It doesn’t taste off...just different. There’s a little coffee and chooclate in there, and though it’s creamy, it’s a bit watery. Overall though, a fantastic beer. I need more De Dolle. beernbourbon (304), chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 14, 2009 Bottle. Pour is dark murky black with huge tan head. Aroma is wet wood, musky, earthy, hints of dried fruits, faint chocolate, a hint of espresso, and licorice. Flavor is funky and sweet up front with earthy tones. Hints of berries and dried fruit in the middle with a coffee background. Finish is sweet and sourish with chocolate and a light alcohol burn. Interesting stout with a lot of character; kind of like a tripel/stout combo. kopher (305), New York, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 11, 2009 gusher! opaque brown, thick foamy tan head.
aroma is sweet and sour bread. just sour malt, i don’t know about this one.
taste is similar with odd artificial black licorice sourness in finish, but otherwise tasty. sweet.
medium body, over carbonation.
i don’t know, maybe it was bad, i mean it really exploded, and the odd finish was not good.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 9, 2009 aroma is of light raspberry and sweet roast. coffee notes are minimal at this point. pour is quite lively with a very airy head for the style. flavor starts with slightly muddy fudge notes and ends with more raspberry and black cherry. booze is nil. palate is sharp and lively with spicy hops and ends mostly dry. overall a nice alternative to dry irish stouts. without the overwhelming flavors of an imperial stout but still packs the same punch. fairly straightforward yet satisfying beer for de dolle. jrallen34 (123), Chicago, Illinois, USA

It pours with a dark brown color with an airy tan head.
It smells sweet but yet there is a touch of bitter coffee in there as well.
The taste is chocolate and berries with a medium dry body.
Very good stout. RHeastings (419), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 5, 2009 Enjoyed from a 11.2 oz bottle in a whiskey snifter. The sample pours a dark brown to black with a very long-lasting tan head. Notes of malt sweetness, Belgian esters of plums and raisons, and some bread come through in the nose. The palate initially brings a note of malt, perhaps Special "B," followed by the characteristic characters of a foreign export stout- roasted malts, dark chocolate, and some assertive hopping. The palate finishes with the sorts of esters one would normally get in a Belgian-style dubbel. The only thing I found to be a negative was the level of carbonation, which was on the level of a tripel; so much so that the bottle overflowed when opened, causing the loss of at least 1/4 of the contents. The alcohol was well-hidden, contributing a simple warming in the throat. Overall, a great beer and excellent variation of foreign stout. Allen (1418), Switzerland
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 27, 2009 Bottle 33cl from crackedkettle.com. Very dark mahogany with a huge beige head. Apple, yeast, candy sugar, lemon peel and cress in the nose which is surprisingly sour. The taste is sourish aswell. Dry. Yeasty. Medium bodied. Lively carbonation. Fizzy. Nice lacework. Roasted malt is most present in the finish which is very dry. Interesting and atypical.
