MuttyD (93), Cambridge, USA Aug 1, 2008 Black pour, huge tan head. Very sugary, huge espresso, dark chocolate and candi sugar malt. Dry and bitter finish.
Homer321 (116), Rockledge, Florida, USA Nov 20, 2008 smells like a funky stout. not like other belgian stouts I have had. very malty smell. lots of chocolate - and FUNK. crazy lacing, underlying earthy herb type taste. puckering. and interesting beer that everyone should try. but onlly buy one bottle espenra (149), Oslo, Norway Nov 19, 2008 33cl bottle from Barley Wine. It poured a pitch black colour with a huge
beige foamy head that settled down slowly in the glass leaving about a
finger height roof. The aroma is acidious but is also heavy on the coffee.
The flavour is also acidious and reminds me of a sour ale. The flavour
tastes of coffee, roasted malts and a hint of vinegar(!?). It has a
lingering aftertaste.
lithy (373), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Nov 17, 2008 Pours a dark dark black with four enormous fingers of silky, creamy chocolate colored head that does not go away. Aroma is roasty malt, chocolate and alcohol. Very strong roasted body, sweet chocolate, slight dark fruits, then pretty big bitter coffee and hop finish. danielcurtis81 (250), San Diego, California, USA Oct 29, 2008 Getting notebook online. Bottle. Pours a chalky black. Pretty good chocolate and coffee nose. Flavors a bit watery but chocolate and coffee are there with some yeast and caramel. Not too bad of a beer. jmm635 (95), Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 27, 2008 Poured dark brown, almost black, with a ridiculously large tan head. Chocolate and toffee aromas, but the flavor is dominated more by the coffee. Full-bodied with a lasting finish, but not a great finish. I was hoping for more.
