Commercial Description:
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. Bottle. Nice red/brown color with a big foamy head. Aroma is a bit malty and sour with some fruity and alcoholic notes. Taste is a bit soursweet with plenty of spice, candi sugar, malt and fruity notes. Strong alcoholic finish. Don’t get the hype just yet.

Pours brown with a 2 1/2 finger tan fizzy head. Aroma is bready, malty, a little sour. Taste is spices, malty, a little sour, some cherry, sweet. There is a sharp carbonation bite that actually works for this beer. I really enjoyed this one.

Bottle. Brown colour with a beige head. Aroma: Malty, a bit sourish, apples, berries, earth, hops. Taste: Malty, sweet but not sticky, lightly sourish, earthy, fruit, spices, dark sugar, licorice, hops. Sweet but very balanced. Also not very phenolic and that´s a good thing in my book.

Bottle. Frothy off-white good mostly deminishing head. Brown-amber not very nice colour. ælight malty and hoppy aroma. Moderate bitter flavor. Strong chocolate and week fruity notes. Long nice moderate bitter finish. Oily palate. A little disapointing but it is still a good beer.

(33 cl bottle) Dark-red color with a foamy head. Smells of sirup and wood, also in the flavor. Really reminds of Kasteelbier Bruin, only a little more bitter. Very nice!

Thanks to HogTownHarry. I think this has been aged 4 years. Appearance: Cloudy brown/red with a one finger off white head. Aroma: Dark fruit, cinnamon, vanilla, leather, sugar, yeast. Flavour: Malty, sticky, toffee, lots of carbonation on the tongue, some yeast and caramel with a long toffee finish.
