Commercial Description:
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. Aroma of caramel malts, huge dark fruits (figs, raisins), hops. Slightly peppery. Very dark brown with a strong orange tint. Huge head. Caramel flavor is big time, with raisin and fig, chocolate, tart fruits as well. It is slightly burnt, with a burnt sugar finish, complex, sweet but balanced by hops, sour, alcohol. All kinds of interesting and somewhat strange flavors going on. Very highly carbonated, mouth seems numb afterwards from bubbles, alcohol, hops, sour fruit. Certainly very interesting and original.

bottle from grape and gourmet. pours a very dark copper, with touches of dark red and a huge, very bubble light tan head. aroma is quite spicy, very reminiscent of red wine. aromas of tart raspberries and cranberries come through nicely with just a touch of hops and some candied sugar. flavor is very bright and crisp with tastes of sweet red wine, red fruits, plums, tart apple, and a touch of oak and brown sugar. palate is medium bodied with huge carbonation and a lingering, tart fruit aftertaste. overall, a damn solid belgian strong.

Bottle @ De Kelk, Bruges. Dark amber beer. The head is big, dense and creamy. It has aromas of oak aged beers. Sharpish spicines, red berried and yeast. Some floral hops too. The flavor is sourish and dry, but it has also sweeter fruitiness or berries. Very complex. The palate is almost dull boded, lingering and somewhat acidic. The finish is tart, long and delicate. Surprisingly light and fresh for a strong ale.

Served on 10 degrees Celsius. This beer that remains drinkab;e up to august 2010, gave fine fumigated white foam collar. At the first sip a fruity young bitter strikes me. It is even slightly sourish with much young bitterhops. When swallowing a mouthful to the middle of the tongue and from there to the sides, the taste is fuller. Behind in the throat I find a palette of fruity bittersweet which pleases me nevertheless much better. But this way this terrible good beeris away much faster. Do not get what is oer on this beer. It cannot be drunk very matered with the valued durability of two year which it gets advised by the brewery. The recipe seems rather fundamental, and the secret is probable hidden in the used hop types. A beautiful and powerful beer.

330ml Bottle: Aroma of tart fruit, red wine, raisins, plums, dark ripe fruits, brown sugar, candi sugar, and caramel. Poured copper/amber/brown in color with a small, tan, head that diminished but lasted around the edges. Cloudy. Very sparkling. Medium and large-sized particles throughout. Flavor is medium to heavily sweet. Tastes of caramel, brown sugar, light tart fruit, yeast, dark ripe fruit, raisins, plums, dates, port, and sherry. Medium body. Tingly, syrupy, coating texture. Lively carbonation. Sweet, yeasty, dark ripe fruit finish.
