Commercial Description:
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

Bottle, pours dark brown with a huge frothy off-white head. Aroma of caramel and fruits and some citrusy hoppy notes. The beer is well carbonated and has lots of flavor and a long lasting finish. A Really nice beer.

Picked up at Maruhn Getränke in Darmstadt. Pours a hazy medium orangish amber color. Aroma is lightly malty, hoppy, yeasty, with a touch of fruit. Flavor is a nice mixture of malts and fruits.

12 oz bottle. Had this after the oerbier reserva, I probably went in the wrong order. Completely different beer from the Reserva. Kind of hard to describe all the nuances, but there’s defintiely brown sugar, sugars almost like rum, yeast, a slight sour kick at the end. Doesn’t have the weird nuances of the reserva, but I suppose it’s not supposed to. Kind of alcoholic as it warms, really a rich, warm, tasty brew.

Really enjoyed this beer...luscious dark chocolate pour with a milk chocolate head. Raisin, cocoa, plum, vanilla, and roasted almonds hide the 9% alcohol well. Aroma of molasses, cherry skin, and brown sugar are inviting. Good brew!!!

Wow, is this a great beer. Now granted, this is my first exposure to Belgian beer, but it sure won’t be the last. It produced massive amounts of a tan head on the pour, even with a slow pour at a 45’ angle. Dark fruit to the nose and a rich nutty flavor that completly hides the 9% alcohol. This beer tasted great right from the refrigerator and as it warmed to cellar temperature. The alcohol warmth only came it as it neared room temperature. It did not strike me as all that tart, as many have noted. One of my favorite beers to date.

Crushed with Jakebra. Highly carbonated creates a great mouthfeel. Reminiscent of a kinda sparkling little kids wine on new years kinda stuff on the nose. A pleasant beer, but not incredible.

Stunning chestnut brown pour with luscious pillowy head. Gorgeous. Brandyish toffee, fruited nose with a green apple boozy cherry quality. Vineous body with a figgy chewed yeast and salivating tartness developing mid to late palate. Thies yeilds an earthy toasted fruit finish. Layered flavors and nice complexity. All together this brew brings the funk sauce. ... Nice.
