Commercial Description:
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

2008 Bottle - Aroma is pure strawberries and grains, beautiful red colour with a huge off-white head, yeasty, fruit, tobacco, and incredibly sour, tannic, alcohol is present but not overt, I really just don’t care much for it...

Reading Beer Festival 2 May 08. Ruby red colored. Flaky. A shortlived fluffy head. Aroma of sweet fruits. Sparkling. Strong sweet flavor with a fruity aftertaste. Alcohol well hidden. Warming. Quite good.

We rounded off our drinking session at the 14th Reading Beer and Cider festival with a few bottles from De Dolle found in the foreign beers section. This one poured a clear mahogany body under a tan, foamy head. Aroma of brown sugar with notes of malt and yeast. Rich in flavour with caramel sweetness blended by dried and dark fruits. Yeast and smooth alcohol beneath. Good mouthfeel (shared with Finn, 02.05.2008).

This was a little tart and sour at first, but then some of the sweeter maltiness comes through as it warms. Lots of fruitiness, with some minerality and woody notes coming through as well. Does nto have a lot of depth and complexity, but it does have a strange drinkability to it.

Pours murky brown with large white head. Looks really good in my trappists glass. Fruity, sweet, caramel notes in the aroma. A quality brew well balanced in flavor and not to overpowering. I can see that this will turn to a wine with some age. I can taste a wine/wood with a tart aftertaste that makes me want more.

dark brown with large tan head. flavor is of caramal malt with candy sugar present. the beer is powerful but doesnt really develop the complexity and depth i had expected. the finish is a little sour. i feel as though this beer could have aged a few years to become something

First impression: Very carbonated. Even though my bottle had been standing still for about two months before I opened it it squirted like a well shocken bottle of champagne. Second impression: Smells nice, very floral, lots of fruit (passionfruit, cherries and more). Amber, and hazy (maybe more so due to the comotion of the opening). Taste is malty, fresh and cherryish - lots of acidity. A prominent tartness. The alcohol is not very evident. I can’t quite put my finger on it but there is something that seems to be missing in the experience of this beer. Good indeed, but I’ve had better.

Aroma is a fantasic floral, with sour notes, and some yeast along with a fantasic apple aroma. A Beautiful big head tops a gorgeous deep amber ale. Taste is delicous and malty, very complex with notes of sour cherries, roasted malt, apple, some delicous winey oak flavors, with light hop bitterness and a faint musty yeast flavor. Palate is very different, it is quite creamy but the sourness keeps it sharp.
