Commercial Description:
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

[Rated 3.18.2008] Pours darker reddish brown with a large foamy beige head that fades into a creamy forth. Delicious malty, woody, toffee aroma. Sweet rich molasses malt, vinous, somewhat tangy/sour with a bitter woody finish. Very lively vacant mouthful, too vacant, detracts from the flavor (smoothes out after 15 minutes of sitting open). Considering how rich the flavor is, I wish it was a little fuller in body. Similar to Pannepot Danish edition. Could definitely use another year + of aging. 9.5.8.4.17 [Rerate 4.17.09] Pours a dull opaque reddish dark brown with a thick frothy beige head 4.5. Fantastic rich malty nutty aroma, slightly vinous. Sweet nutty first taste, very authentically trappist, yesty, darker candi sugar, pretty rich but more towards cloying and sugary, noticeable hops, some citrus like juiciness, woody cheesy finish with a bitter aftertaste 8.5. Medium bodied, slightly chewy, larger abundant fluffy sharp carbonation. "Age me" this says. 9.5.8.4.17

Bottle 33 cl. As any other dolle you hardly get the cap off before the beer shows it self. (Remember a tissue).A medium body where you clearly sense the alcohol and burned malts and wood. The nose is quite light with hints of rusty water and sour fruits. The head is thick and lasts all the way.

11.5oz bottle into tulip glass. poured creates a thick sticky head with a light brown color foam. beer color is dark brown and almost opaque. scent was sweet of cherries and raisins. sips of strong alcohol that burns after a few seconds, almost like a whiskey. subsides a bit as it warms. flavors of apple and caramel washes over pallette. overall a good beer, but potent.

From a goblet. Huge, dense, finely bubbled head over a murky reddish brown body. A great initial nose of plum, raisin, and spice. The flavor is caramel and fruit with some yeasty spiciness. The sharpness of the carbonation detracts from the flavor until it dissipates. Towards the end of the glass, the tart, woody qualities take over on the aroma and flavor with a touch of bitterness.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy brown with huge beige head and very active carbonation. The aroma is mellow and sweet, with caramel, various fruits, a slight vinous note, and a touch of spicy alcohol. The flavor is full of dark fruits. Plum, raisin, even a little bit of black cherry hit the mouth first, then a soft caramel sweetness. A distant woodiness gives just a little bit of bitterness. The finish is slightly dry and rather vinous, but quickly melds into an aftertaste full of golden toast. All of the flavors here meld so gracefully into one another, and everything is nicely rounded. This is quite a well-made brew.

This one climbed out of the 33 cl bottle from Monument in Concord, CA. Rich, dark yeast and fruit aromas. Spicey. Dark mahogany color with an active tan head. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Something like a light oporto flavor with heavy bread. Yeast spice all over with notes of raisin and prune. Not to mention caramel. Finish has some oak hints, and is rather surprisingly dry. Very pleasurable concoction.

Caramel colored with a fleeting khaki crown. Medium strength sweet, yeasty candy sugar earthy aroma. Dusty dark malt taste at first sip with spices and a light pit fruit sweetness to finish. Underwhelming. 6107
