Commercial Description:
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. Bottle 33 cl. Pours a murky brown with a small head and brown sugar and ripe fruits in the nose. Full sweet flavor of raisin, ripe fruits, caramel, candy sugar and honey. Sweet finish with a little bitterness. Good one

Poured from a 33cl bottle and served in a tulip. This beer poured a muddy, dark brown with a thick, fizzy head of tan foam that lasted throughout the entire glass. Not much lace. The aroma of the beer was typical for a dark Belgian and was made up of ripened dark fruit, candi sugar, some doughy yeast, and just a touch of alcohol. The flavor consisted of dates, raisins, red apples, mild caramel, candi sugar, and some tongue warming alcohol. The mouthfeel was medium to full-bodied with moderately aggressive carbonation. Not a bad beer, but a bit boring. For a style that is commonly produced, there is much better available.

Pours a cloudy Brown with a creamy tan head. Lots of carbonation bubbles are apparent and the head has excellent retention. Aroma of fruits, malt, yeast, rasins. Flavor of fruit, caramel, banana, spices, yeast.Slightly bitter yet sour finish.

Pours a dark brown with a large good looking tan head. Aroma of dark fruits and some belgian yeast. Tart, sweet. Quite a bit of carbonation.

This goes into a tulip with lots of sediment. It is a cherrybrownish color. An inch of creamy head crowns the beer. The nose is of malty spices, and maybe some yeast or earthiness. My first sips of this at cellar temperature were not pleasant. From reading the reviews, I know that the tart, somewhat sour flavor is normal. I just don’t care for it. I could actually say that I like this as it nears room temperature. The sourness is gone, although it is still tart. The flavor is refreshing, and complex. I can taste the Belgian yeast, maybe some sour apples, biscuity malt, and grassy hops. The mouthfeel is thick without being syrupy in the slightest. The drinkability is low, not because I don’t like this, but the flavors would become cloying. I could probably have another one, though. IMO, pop this at cellar temperature just to taste it in that state. As for me, the next time I will start drinking this one at a warmer temperature. This has quite the finish. Pours dark brown with a thick fluffy and sturdy tan head. Aromas are a complex melange of malts, bready yeast, and bananas, some coffee and alcohol. Flavour is full bodied with brown-sugary, molasses-laden malt, caramel and milk chocolate, raisins and a throat-warming alcohol. Finish is soft and fruity, although zestily bitter.

I think Ryan brought this to PP bottle shop. Thanks! Darkish amber color. Strong carbonation burns the tongue. Phenolic plastic De Dolle aroma. Do they finish their beers with Brett? Pretty decent. A little malty and sweet. Maybe a little tart.

It’s good, but a taste I have not fully acquired. Bottle at Stuffed Sandwich. A real light-spectrum classic, with only faint notes that sharpen to a darker-than-geuzy tang at the end. Raisins, nuts, tart green apple, flour and caramel are all a good guess, but far from the overall impact. A good beer to grow on.
