Commercial Description:
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. Bottle: Deep red clear colour, with a werry nice creamy head. Aroma of caramel, fruity, chocolate and a bit citric in the end. Flavor has almost the same, sparkling feeling in the mouth, medium to full body, medium caramely/bitter finish. This is a werry nice belgian strong ale.

Totally opaque brown color with a nice creamy tan head. Smells like rusted iron or blood which isn’t so hot, but it tastes pretty good with a nice twist -- kind of corky, woody and bitter.

Pours a brown color with a tan head. Aroma is slight roasted malts, molasses, dark fruit, and caramel malts. Flavor is the same with a slightly bitter finish of the citrus hops. Overall this was pretty good.

(bottle): Pours a reddish brown color, maybe cloudy. Small tannish head, not as lasting. Aroma of dark fruit, raisins, dark fruit. Sickly sweet. Dark fruit taste. Carbonated, sweet. Vinegary. Good taste, not too complex.

Pours a cloudy brown with a thin, though bright white head. The aroma is fermenting fruit mixed with high-sugar malts and a sour note. The flavor is very interesting. Starts off strongly sweet for an instant and then a sour cherry note comes through that cleanses the palate and washes away any stickiness that might have been left by the heavy malts. It’s strangely as if you as drinking more than 1 beer. Finishes clean after the tart washout on the palate. Overall, an incredibly interesting and complex BSA.

Hazy dark brown with medium off white head. Sweet malty flavor with toffee, overripe fruits and yeast. Sweet flavor with malt, toffee and overripe fruits. Some sour notes as well. Good comlexity and nice balance. Alcohol well hidden.

Bottle 33 cl. Dark brown, hazy and tan foam that’s mostly disappearing. Full body, thick feel, lively. Aroma of chocolate and dried fruit. The finish is long, dominated by alcohol and is lightly bitter and lightly sour.

Somehow I’ve never rated this, even though I love De Dolle stuff. Deep ruby, wispy shockingly white head. Nose is caramel & alcohol, dark fruits, cocoa and yeast, plum and tobacco. A bit hot but still very nice. Flavor is huge caramel & dark fruit, bubblegum, rich concord grapes, cocoa, cherries, caramelized raisins. A hint of smoke in the finish. Its good but it lacks something to tie it all together - I want either higher carbonation, some tartness or 15 years of age on this bottle.
