Commercial Description:
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. bottle. pours a dark crimson brown with a substantial and never ending off-white head. leaves a good lacing. great complex smell of fruits with a woody tinge: grapes and pears and cherries lead off with dark and spicy fruits picking up the rear. completely unique flavor. oaked cherry and raisins, maybe even a bit of spicy hop. rather subdued flavor given the huge nose. i like it though. the finish is surprising; i was expecting a bit of bittersweet with some spice, which is all there, but there’s also a tiny hint of sour that catches you off guard, but i like it. medium full in body and a great creamy/bubbly mouthfeel. lots of carbonation. there’s something different about this one, and i like it.

Bottle at yespr’s place. Pours a red-brown huge long lasting light brown head. Quite alcoholic bit sweet toasty aroma. Sweetish toasty bitter alco flavour with dark fruits and hops. Thanks Jesper.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Dark brown colour with huge brown head. Fruity, slightly lactic nose with notes of dried fruit, prunes and raisins. Rather vinous and sourish with spicy hints. Malty, fruity, powerful taste with dried fruit, prunes, brown sugar, slightly roasted and vinous with a sourish touch. Very complex and very tasty. Impressive beer.

Darker brown color with a pillowy head. Aroma of figs, brown sugar, yeast, bread. Flavor is a pleasant yeasty-bready-sweet mix of dark fruits, spice, brown sugar. Pleasant finish. Nice Belgian strong!

Bottle. Mahogany color, on the opaque side of cloudy. Massive aroma of yeast, spice, moldy fruit, acid, alcohol. Flattish taste of wood, grapes, lemon, vanilla, tart finish, nutty malt. Huge contrast from the in-your-face aroma and I don’t particularly like it. Still an impressive beer though.

A uniformly murky ruddy brown with a big creamy cream head, dense and big, thinning to thin and dense relatively quickly. The nose is round and sweet. Cookie dough strikes me. A good bit of caramel. Some light apple to vinous fruit. Maybe a hint of cherry. Rather creamy. A tiny bit toasty. A creamy smooth mouthfeel. A bit fizzy, but that might just be the acidity. Still viscous. Much tarter than I’d have expected! Still sweet and a bit cookie doughy. The caramel is subdued compared to the apple and vinous aspects of the fruit. What a reversal. A bit tart, but still creamy. The toast and woody fruit lingers in a long rather dry finish. Especially considering the round malt. This is a beer I’d like to age. It reminds me of a well done bad beer I’ve had in the past, but I just cannot put my finger on it...

a bit too tart for my particle palate, the taste does have the fruit ester and high malt feel but the rest seems a bit too sour for an overall enjoyment

The aroma is sour with malt brown sugar, malt, spice and yeast. The appearance is brown with a huge head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is smooth but thin. Overall this is not good.
