Commercial Description:
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. Huge overflow when pouring. Poured dark red with HUGE off white head. Took 5 minutes to pour it all the way. Aroma of fruit, candy, and hops. nice fruit flavor with some candy hints. Very sweet but drinkable.

Bottle (33 cl) from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen, Denmark. Cloudy reddish brown with a large and rich beige head. Fruity, slightly roasted, nutty, and caramelly malt aroma, complex, with notes of gunpowder, wood and yeast. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Very well balanced with a dry and bitter finish.

Pours a beautiful cloudy dark amber color with ruby and brown highlights when held to a light source. There was a huge, two inch light beige, frothy head. As the head subsided, a quarter inch of lace hung around the head. The scent was of malt, apples, plums, honey, syrup and some sweetness. A nice sweet taste up front with malt, dried fruit, apples, vanilla and some caramel. A perfect mouthfeel and creamy finish. I was very impressed by this beer.

Cloudy, dark reddish brown body. Massive, densely packed, cream colored head with excellent retention. The foam lasts until the final sip. Sudsy lace coats the glass in vertical columns, only to slowly by absorbed back into the body like the ooze in a lava lamp. The aroma is a lovely blend of figs, darkly roasted caramel, brown sugar, dark fruits, cream, and hints of vodka. There’s a faint bit of root beer on the nose as well. The flavor shows sweet caramel and candy sugar up front, moving quickly to dark fruits and then a sour, funky yeast. The finish is long, mostly dry, and surprisingly sour. Creamy, medium-full body and mouthfeel. Sharply metallic when cold, this beer must be served just slightly chilled in order to fully appreciate all it has to offer. Very solid beer, though the finish disappoints a little.

Bottle, cloudy brown with a thick head that collapses to peaks. Dark malty aroma, with a slight sour note and alcohol. Rich and smooth, with chocolate and alcohol being the dominate flavors. long finish.

Bottle, from the Oxford CAMRA beer festival. Deep caramel brown, a big tan cap of foam that settles into a dense, frosting-like layer that lasts the whole hour I took sipping through the glass. Initial sniff is a jangle of hot grass and sticky tropical flowers on wet decaying wood. Settles down a notch, and there is raw chocolate, the toasted sugar of creme brulee, with a high-frequency buzz that seems sometimes like vanilla, sometimes like alcohol, and if I hold the glass just right, Big Red® cinnamon gum. Chocolate flavor, or chocolate as it would be if chocolate had dry alcohol heat and a pinch of black pepper. Plums. Underlying viney wood character. Very delicate and drinkable. Wishing for another bottle...

Bottle picked up from Oxford Beer Festival 12-10-07 Pours a dark reddy/brown colour with fruity spicey aroma. Tastes glorious, a slight hint of sourness on the edge more than counteract the sweetness, the alcohol is there but never intrudes, wonderful dark fruits rush through with the spiciness again showing. Excellent.

Deep reddish brown pour, with large tan head. The nose is dark fruit with spice, and buttery vinous notes. The taste is very similar to the nose with a light warming from alcohol. A nice complex beer that I will drink again.
