Commercial Description:
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

Bouteille 330ml.

Bottle. Hazy, brown body, topped by a big, lasting, tan to beige head, leaving nice lacings. Roasted, coffee, dried fruits and some cellar in the aroma. Sugary flavor with roasted malt, coffee, a little oxidation and some dried and fresh fruits. Full to medium body, quite dry. Sugary, roasted finish with some oxidation and spices. It is maybe a bit sweet, but it is a lovely beer drank as a winter warmer. (070637)

Bottle. Low brown head. Pretty black body. Aroma of caramel and coffee with vineous notes and a heavy alcohol dominance. Heavily carbonated acidic if not just pain sour. Alcohol and carbonation is killing everything else this bear migh taste of. Coffee maybee ? Cocoa ? Nuts ? Balrey malt ? Nooen will ever know.

11.2 oz bottle. Pours a lucious dark brown with a garnet tinge when held to light. Forms a microcosm of velvet beige foam which simply never dissipates throughout the beer’s lengthy session. As it slowly warms, it relinquishes notes of treacle, sour raspberries, even a vague melon tinge to the dominant malt sweetness of the nose. On the palate, it is miraculously full-bodied, silky smooth, notes of ginger, brown sugar, red wine, sour fruit, and pleasant yeast bite giving way to mild bitterness and wheat malt profile in a lovely lengthy finish. This one’s a true original (hahaha).

330ml bottle (Kaunis Kampela, Helsinki, Belgian Weeks)
Hazy deep red, tiny head. Sweet malty and, on swirling, very estery aroma. Harsh carbonation - really needs a swirl. Very pleasant rubbery burnt corner to the taste, but pretty sticky. There’s a touch of sourness to the aroma too. Competant belgian, nothing special.

Bottled (Live and Let Live, Cambridge)
Slightly muddy orange with a frothy head. Strong and unsubtle. Very malty but a bit sharp.

Bottle. Hazy orange/copper color with a huge head. Good retention, spare lacing. Aroma of yeast, brown sugar and dark fruit (plums, mostly). Sweet taste with grapes and dark fruit. Somewhat vinous texture. Astringent finish. Complex and tasty.

Dark, malty, raisin notes. Gingerbread. Cherry. Enthusiastic carbonation but swiftly subsiding head. Perfect palate. Strong and delicious beer that delivers smiles. The alcohol is detectable but integrated. DeDolle rocks.
