Commercial Description:
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. Dark brown body with a quickly dissipating head. The aroma is a sour apple mixed with malts and yeast. Great light sour flavor with hints of raisins, apple, and bread. Really nice brew.

The appearance was sediment, hazey, orange/brown. The head was very foamy, light beige, and a lot of lacing. The aroma was spice, alcohol, sweet, and fermenting fruit. The palate was smooth and med/thick bodied. The finish was warm and alcohol.

Came out of the bottle a murky brown with some sediment and reddish edges when held to the light. God, the head is thick. Tan. Creamy. Lasting. Laces well. The aroma is wonderful, sweet, sugar, candy, fig, dark fruit. The flavor is very mellow, some smooth dark fruit, alcohol, dry, sour/earthy notes, slightly vinous. NICE. The palate has a soft smooth carbonation with a bit of dryness. The finish is dry with a mellow vinous alcohol warmth. This is the best belgian I have had in a while, I highly recommend it. I’m going to have to get more De Dolle stuff.

12oz bottle aged 1 year. sampled next to Oerbier Special Reserva. pours a dark amber color with nice white head. nose has a subtle tartness to it, apples, and pears. nose is subtle but nice. flavor has nice sweet plums, pears, pinnapple, and finishes with a soft toasted cookie. alcohol is well hidden. this is very complex, and dangerously drinkable.4.1.

6/29/08, 33cl bottle. lots of dark fruit and candy sugar in the aroma. flavor is a very dried dark fruit and some yeasty spice to it. reminds me a bit of st.b12 and seems more like an abt.3.9.

4/13/07 330 ml bottle one year old sampled thanks to drewbeerme. Deep golden raisin color with a beige head and lacing down the glass. Light aroma of malt cookie and sour apple. Flavor of apple raisin, tart fruits, that lead into a bready cookie finish. A very complex great beer.

5/8/09 330ml bottle from WLV. Pours a dark mahogany color with a tall fluffy beige head. Dark fruits and fresh fruits in the nose. Fresh mulberries and sour cherries with some earthiness and acidity. Highly carbonated. Dark fruits, raisins, sour cherries that pop in my mouth with all that fizz. Doughy malts that are slightly sweet and boozy near the finish. Little over the top with carbonation, but hey, its a Belgian beer. All around a solid beer. 8/4/8/4/16 = 4.0

Bottle. Nice redbrown colour and huge pale brown head. Nice aroma malts yeast, dried fruit, cherries. Taste is first raisinlike and then turns sour. The sourness is very dominating, and I don¨t like it, which draws dawn a lot on an otherwise very nice beer. Long aftertaste. I think its unharmonic.
