| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 10, 2007 Bottled 1989 - Deep red brown body with a big bubbled but lasting beige head; The aromas seems at first quite simple, with lots of age, dust and a little oxidization, but behind it there is the most beautiful sour aromas with lots of both red berries and fruit on a background of sour-dough rye bread; The body has a very special composition, it is very balanced with fruity sweet notes combined with quite a bit of lactic acid, it has a soft texture and almost no carbonation; The lactic acid grows and changes to malonic tart in a very long and balanced finish with some sweetness, very pleasant, some dried fruit aromas like prune and green raisins combined with lots of red fruits like plum and ripe red apples. Great beer that has aged remarkable! NicerInPerson (337), North of Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 2, 2007 The aroma was candy and malt with cherries and a Belgian yeast spice presence. A light tartness was present with the malt and caramel and a moderate level of biscuit built as the beer warmed. In the chalice the beer was crystal clear dark amber brown with an off-white low and persistent head which lasted to lace at the glass. The flavor was dark caramel, molasses, and deep dark fruits, raisins and prunes, with a cinnamon spice. Also present was a Belgian yeast spice and a nice earthy presence. The malt flavors were well balanced by bittering which was not at all overdone. The body was medium with a high carbonation which led to a creaminess in the mouthfeel. The finish was dry with lasting impressions of spice, biscuit and dark fruits with caramel long into the aftertaste and beyond. An awesome beer! 33 cl bottle. My favorite beer on my Bday! | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 27, 2007 11.6oz - Toffee colored liquid under light brown head. Cloves, wood and smoke on nose. Traditiona, sour, lambic flavor profile covers teh mouth, marking it as the Begian classic this is. This is a good thing, but with the powerful flavors may not be for everyone. frankenkitty (1903), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 25, 2007 This pour found rather a quick, fizzy, cream-colored head over a sediment-laden body of deep amber/brown. Aroma finds a strong malted backdrop to rather thick, fruity yeasts (not as sharp as <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/Beer/de-dolle-oerbier Special Reserva). Sweet and sticky with a hefty alcohol punch. Very smooth given its heat. Heavily sweet and malted, my notes give up as I stop to enjoy the beer. My wife loved this as well.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 22, 2007 11.6 bottle. Average fizzy tan head that leads into cloudy reddish-black color. Some malts and fruit but strongest part of aroma is flowery hops. Sweet-bitter-tart flavor (not in a good way). The aftertaste has some roasted malts that would be nice otherwise. I think that I would like this beer a whole lot better if not for the tangy flavor. JoeinUccle (911), Brussels, Belgium
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Feb 22, 2007 Updated: Oct 12, 2007One of my faves, not sure why I haven’t rated it yet. Tan head sits pretty atop an impenetrably dark brown body. Sharp aroma of old, soured apple juice and red wine. The sour, fruity flavor includes some corked wine and develops dryness as it develops. Soda-pop mouthfeel. Finish is a nice balance of hops and alcohol, which are both hiding until then. Hooray for De Dolle.... RE-RATED after many repeat drinkings and months of making sure there were always some in the cellar. The sour cherries, those vinous notes, that perfect dusting of bitterness... So many breweries now are aging things in oak or trying other fancy tricks, and most of the results pale in comparison to the complexity of this simply made beer. BigBeer45 (698), Troy, Michigan, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 18, 2007 Bottle, pours a dark brown ruby, lots of off-white creamy bubbles that settle to a thin blanket, the fragrance reminds me of a dubble, caramel and toffee, prunes and baked fruit, sweet, dark malt,
hint of citrus, chocolate, coffee and vanilla, sweet malt taste with some chocolate, bubbly in the mouth, dry on the palate, citrus and little fruit with alcohol on the tongue (the alcohol presents itself as it warms), some bourbon and wine taste inside, dark candy sugar taste, some stout and dark bread, nice brew, this could be a great winter warmer, I really enjoyed this drink.
