| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 10, 2006 A very fruity and yeasty smell mixed with a little bit of carmelized sugars. The appreance is a muddy browishred color...not really attractive, but I really nice active and bubbly head. The taste is like a slight felmish sour version of a belgian strong. It is pretty good...different but good. Tmoney99 (4792), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 9, 2006 Bottle. Poured reddish brown color with a huge fizzy head that lasted with excellent lacing. Complex dark fruit and yeasty aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Medium fruity balanced flavor with a medium sweet finish of long duration. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 9, 2006 The 11.6 ounce bottle poured a cloudy reddish-brown colored beverage with an average sized fizzy tan head that was mostly diminishing but left some lacing on the glass. I poured carefully because this is one is bottle-conditioned and will have sediment. The aroma was somewhat fruity, mostly of dried, darker fruits. I was able to pick out raisins, prunes and dates. There was also a nice earthy tanned leather component faintly lurking in the background. The body was medium-full with lively carbonation and a tart, dry texture. The flavor starts off with a tart sourness that also has a fruit component to it. The flavor stays consistent through the middle and end however, there is a quite noticeable alcohol warmth that comes on in the middle and lasts. dwyerpg (2553), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 6, 2006 Very dark and cloudy, with some floaties, maybe near the bottom of the bottle. I like this a lot. Quite sweet but nice and spicy. A little malty. The best de dolle I’ve had so far. Number 19 for the day. iowaherkeye (1877), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 5, 2006 Updated: Feb 28, 2007Rerate. Just had the Reserva, so now I’ll have this. Same batch as my old rating. Pours a clear reddish orange brown with a two finger fluffy beige head that’s got great retention. Aroma of powdered sugar, figs, raisins, light chocolate, apple skins, yeast, light grassy hops, and a bit of toffee. The aromas aren’t ungodly huge, but they are great and nothing bad to say thus far. Flavor is tart--unlike the aroma--with some light smoke and acidity showing up. There is some sour cherries, chocolate, brown sugar, raisins, light alcohol, flavored pipe tobacco (some fruity flavor), and some spice. After the finish my mouth tastes earthy with some chocolate. Burps cherry soda. Prickly moderate to high carbonation with a medium body. Fantastic. Old rating follows. 11.6oz, no date, though cap says SPECL BREW2. Pours a murky reddish brown with a huge (4 finger) beige head. Aroma of yeast, candy and powdered sugar, apples, figs, raisins, toffee, light spice. Reminds me kind of a dubbel. Flavor is much the same with some grapes and then roasty coffee malts in the dry finish. There is some warming of ETOH in the back of the throat--complementing the beer rather than distracting. Medium bodied--maybe a hair thinner than what I wanted., moderate carbonation. Excellent beer. 9-4-8-4-17--4.2 oh6gdx (9104), Vasa, Finland
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 30, 2006 Bottled. Dark brown colour, huge brown head. Aroma is hops, malts, caramel and some earthy notes. Flavour is sweetish sour fruits, caramel, earth, hops and slight roasted malts in finish. Complex beer with a rather creamyish foamy palate. Hides the alcohol quite well, mainly the alcohol shows as a nice warming feeling when entering the stomach. wheninhell (486), louisville, Kentucky, USA
