Commercial Description:
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. Pours a murky/cloudy brown with a thick tan head. Aroma is of thick malts, fruity with hints of pears, caramel apples, chocolate and yeast. Tart, fruity bouquet at first. Tart acidity of fresh green apples, slightly piney. The late almost chocolatey sweetness balances the early tart bouquet. Nice and complex.

Bottle. Dark brown color with medium off-white head. Very aromatic. Toasted sweet malts, milk-chocolate, mild coffe and molasses. Spices and herbs as well. Taste is smooth and complex with toasted malts, dried fruits, caramel and spices. Surpringly fresh and acidic finish.

Hazy dark ruby with a large off-white head. Another very yeasty beer from De Dolle. Very fruity character (wild berries, strawberries), candy and liquorice and cream caramel dessert. Some oak a little sourness touch in there too. Another reason why De Dolle is one of my favourite brewery. I had it on tap at the brewery and served by the brewer himself. I felt like a groupie with a back-stage pass to the Mötley Crüe dressing room… without the dirty sex part.

Bottle thanks to Book_m_Dano. Funny bottle. Hugh head with big bubbles forms during the pour. Hazy brown chestnut color. Fruity floral aroma that is enjoyable but fleeting. Sweet burnt caramel with apples, grapes and other fruits. Faintly spicy with sour hints and a bitter finish. Interesting. Very carbonated (too much so for my taste) with a semi-sweet, medium body. Not bad.

Bottle: Pours with an off-white, fluffy head and a hazy, ruby, dark brown body. The nose is with hops, malt and yeast. Malty flavour with caramel, lemon and mild coffee. Sweet/ sour and bitter finish. Medium to full bodied. An unusual but very tasty beer.

Pours reddish brown, with a nice off-white head that lasts. The aroma is off-the-charts strong: winey, sweet malts. The taste is strong, in that weird sense of the word, that everything about it is a little more than what you’d expect it to be. Vanilla, dark fruit, molasses, kind of an earthiness that is hard to put a finger on. Also a constant presence of alcohol. Carbonation is fair, and the finish lasts. Interesting.

Bottle. Coffee color with a big, fluffy, off-white head. Sweet and malty nose. Fruit. Pear, apple, vanilla, oaky, earthy, honey, a hint of alcohol. Slightly metallic. Really nice flavor. Again slightly metallic, very smooth. Malty flavor, more vanilla, vinous, subtle bitterness, nutty, light hoppy tartness. Light on the palate, but still full bodied. This is a great beer, my favorite De Dolle so far.

Bottle. Caramellized preserved fruit, honey, vineous, light roasted notes. Hazy red amber, foamy golden amber head. Wooden barrel notes, candysugar and honey, madeira, Citric hop bitterness. Deceptively light mouthfeel, quite dry on the palate. Light dust retronasal. Dry wooden and orange marmelade aftertaste.
