Commercial Description:
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. Bottle. Caramellized preserved fruit, honey, vineous, light roasted notes. Hazy red amber, foamy golden amber head. Wooden barrel notes, candysugar and honey, madeira, Citric hop bitterness. Deceptively light mouthfeel, quite dry on the palate. Light dust retronasal. Dry wooden and orange marmelade aftertaste.

Bottle. Medium off-white head. Hazy dark brown color. Very aromatic. Toasted sweet malts, milk-chocolate, mild coffe and molasses. Spices and herbs as well. Taste is smooth and complex with toasted malts, dried fruits, caramel and spices. Surpringly fresh and acidic finish. Top end from the mad brewers.

Beer 19 Summer 2006 trip in Europe. Drank on 7/2/06 bottled and drank at Bierbrasserie Cambrinus in Brugge, Belgium. A delicious brown belgian strong ale with a lot of umph. Extremely tasty, somehow even better in belgium then in the US.

Look of dark cherry wood, particles are floating around in Chimay glass. Full aroma of spices, malts and earth. Wow this flavor is spicy and rich. I can almost chew on this beer. Complex sweet tastes, spicy hops with scotch, and tongue numbing amount of malt flavor. It has an alluring taste that I find quite eccentric. This is what an Belgium Ale should be.

Poured a very dark brown color with a thin tan head. Aroma is spicy, sweet, and pit-fruity. The taste is a meld of maltiness, spice, and a unique acidic tart finish that is pleasing. Palate seems thin for 9%, and the beer is well carbonated. Different.

[Bottled, RBESG 2006] Dark red/brownish. Malty in both aroma and flavour with loads of dried, sweet fruits. Rather hoppy finish.

Redish brown color with a high light brown head. Very complex with notes of malt, fruit and spices. Slightly sour taste with a nice bitter aftertaste.

Astonishing. This must be the most complex beer flavour that I have ever experienced. The start is somewhat acidic, and the finish that of a classic Belgian Karmeliet. In between it was pure joy, but so very complex with malt and bitterness and flavour, that I really cannot describe it. Suffice to say that it is extraordinary. The very dark colour and smashing nose only add to what is a magnificent beer.
