Commercial Description:
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

The aroma is sweet malty with clear notes of yeast. The color is a hazy dark amber and it has a fine head. The flavor is malty and complex with caramel and yeast. The alcohol runs prickling over the tongue and gives it a good mouthfeel. A lovely beer.

(Bottle 33 cl) Reddish brown with a huge, frothy head. Very soft mouthfeel from the low carbonation and a slightly acidic nose. The beer doesn’t appear sour though, on the contrary it’s rather sweet from the loads and loads of yummy malts and added candi sugars. But before things start to cloy you’re hit by the hops in the finish. 14.0194

Sampled draught at Akkurat, Stockholm.
Hazy, reddish brown. Woody nose. Dry and hoppy solidly malty. Peppery, rounded mouthfeel and some vinou qualities. Salty bitterish finish.
Old rating, bottled. Deep ruby and lively with rich, firm head. Vinuous nose. Sweet and lean with rich toffee flavour and some lactic acidity. The finish has notes of cherries and a short sting of bitter hops. Complex and really tasty. (9/5/8/4/16)

33 cL bottle. Pours deep reddish with a crispy and dense slight orange head. Aroma is dark malty, sweet and complex yeasty spiced. Heavy carbonation. Strong fruity and alcohol lifted initial flavour. Followed by a thick roasted and cane sugarish flavour. Has a nice blend between sour and sweet notes. Warming finish in which the dark malt notes keep lingering.

Bottle. Dark brown color with medium off-white head. Very aromatic. Toasted sweet malts, milk-chocolate, mild coffe and molasses. Spices and herbs as well. Taste is smooth and complex with toasted malts, dried fruits, caramel and spices. Surpringly fresh and acidic finish.

Bottle. Sweet, cloying aroma. Hint of metal, perhaps some dried fruit. Brown colour, unstable head. VERY sweet, sugary flavour. Feels quite alcoholic in spite of its 7.5%. Warming. Some liquorice in flavour.

Bottled. Dark brown colour, huge brown head. Aroma is hops, malts, caramel and some earthy notes. Flavour is sweetish sour fruits, caramel, earth, hops and slight roasted malts in finish. Complex beer with a rather creamyish foamy palate. Hides the alcohol quite well, mainly the alcohol shows as a nice warming feeling when entering the stomach.
