Commercial Description:
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

The longest-finishing beer that I’ve ever tasted-- at least 15 seconds. Tastes a bit like cider, but oh so much more complex. The most interesting beer money can buy.

a very fine brew!! Malty and yeasty aroma, a very nice aftertaste, a bit malty. Very sweet to.. [re-rate 23.6.2006] 1983 vintage .. First of all, I’m not jumping aboard some band wagon just because this is a vintage bottle and almost as old as myself, I didnt expect anything from this, and had no idea how it was stored during those 25 years. I did expect this to be a fun experience but I thought that it was certain that the bottle was bad or oxidiced. Boy was I wrong, poured this into a burgundy glass, and to my surprise it was still carbonated. Very delicate and small bubbles and a thin but firm tiny white head. Very dark, but not jet black. Ruby black would describe the color. Massive aroma of cherries when poured, some malts and tiny hints of spices. When it heated up the raisins shone through and created a perfect balance, both in the aroma and the palate. I cant describe this enough, the best flemish sour I have tasted and propably now the best beer I have ever tasted. A unique and magnificent experience!

I had never heard of this beer before it just showed up at the Sharp Edge in Pittsburgh one night. It has become an instant favorite. Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this fine brew pours a cloudy caramel color with a large tan head. The aroma is marvelous with sweet cherry and apple elements. The texture is syrupy yet strongly carbonated at the same time. The flavor is sweet with loads of cherry and apple fruit flavors, a thick and sweet middle, and a hoppy and spicy finish. I will definitely be revisiting this one!

It is impossible, I feel, to judge a good quality beer adequately if one has only tried it once. And absurd to even attempt to do it. But when will I be able to taste this again?

Astonishing. This must be the most complex beer flavour that I have ever experienced. The start is somewhat acidic, and the finish that of a classic Belgian Karmeliet. In between it was pure joy, but so very complex with malt and bitterness and flavour, that I really cannot describe it. Suffice to say that it is extraordinary. The very dark colour and smashing nose only add to what is a magnificent beer.

Mixed reviews for one of the worlds top 10 beers. This is a classic. Know it, love it, age it. Had one recently from Bottleworks. Worth $9 - no doubt, but tastes better for $3 in Belgium!
