Commercial Description:
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

So I opened the bottle and it gushes. "Sheesh, $6 for a bad bottle," I think, but it turns out to taste pretty good, though I am quite annoyed at having lost some of this expensive beer. Aromas are fruity (apples, pears candied apricots), spices (allspice, clove), and the flavor is that plus some acidic prunes. A nice beer.

Wow. Really enjoyed this beer. Malty and sour. More fruity then the Arabier. Love the sour and carbonation mix. Hard to tell if I am tasting a hint of chocolate or caramel. De Dolle makes great beers.

330ml Bottle at the Valley Bar, Scarborough 05/12/2009 Big fruit aroma. Amber coloured strong in alcohol and fruity with a crisp and slightly bitter full malt finish.

Hazy Hazel nut colour, thin head. Aroma is very rich with notes of candy. bread, malt and dark fruit. The flavour is also very rich and bready with a strange misplaced chocolate flavour, fruity and delicious. Really great beer. You are still tasting it minutes later and the fruity flavours just keep coming. Like I said. Great.

Bottle, brought back from my Seattle trip, shared with Cole and hobbersr. A sweet, malty, and very mildly sour brew, notes of tart berries, jujube candies, cinnamon, pepper, and a darker, earthier side as well. Palate is Rich and in the bready/cakey range, with more spics, plus both tropical and winter fruits, plus mild berries. Finish is bananas, lemons, and apples, plus marmalade and burnt toast. Very fine, Champagne-like carbonation. Rich and gorgeous, but also very drinkable. Not quite the showstopper that the Oerbier Reserva is, but a mighty fine brew!

Brown with some orange hue. Pillowy, lasting head which leaves great lacing. Aroma of sweet bread, toffee, house yeast, and light flower. Lively carbonation makes this seem a little less hefty than it is. Good flavor balance of fruity, sweet malt with underlying yeast, and earth flavors. Little damp wood as well. Lingering sweet, tart, and more of a hop presence than expected. Pretty dry. Delicate, and dangerously drinkable. Seems it was gone in just a few gulps. I love De Dolle

Shared with my Lethbridge ratebeer buddies, Cole and savvy1982. Thanks for the share Kyle! Pours a burnt orange colour with a yellow/gray head. The aroma is sweet and bretty with Belgian candy dominant. The flavor is very complex. Cherries, orange peel, cake, plum skin, bitter chocolate, lemon, and charcoal. This tastes very good. nice mouth feel. Fantastic brew!

Bottle from Utobeer Market Stall. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aromas of vanilla, dark fruits, toffee, brown sugar. Flavours of chocolate, plum pudding, raisins, licorice, slight sourness. Good sweet, hoppy mouthfeel. Finishes with warming alcohol and a gentle bitterness. Excellent stuff.

From lithy via trade. The pour was dark brown and a bit cloudy. The head was short and white with thin bits of lacing. Aromas of dark fruit, yeast, malts and a whiff of booze. The flavor is mostly yeast and fruit. There’s a bit of warming alcohol towards the finish. Body isn’t that thick and it goes down easy. Tasty.
