Light, hazy brown pour with a sticky, offwhite head. Lacing is lovely. Aroma is Sweet caramel malt with some definitive yeasty character and some burnt notes. Flavor explodes as dark candy sugars and some dark toasted malt notes. Sweet sugar fruits such as dates and figs and Alcohol is a presence as well, warming at the center and at the finish. Excellent. Aroma is dark candi sugars, burnt molasses, and belgian yeast complexity. Taste has a very tannic quality, quite drying on the palate with lots of vinuous undertones. Definite dried/aged fruit character - plums, prunes etc., as well as a spiciness not of the yeast - I assume added spices that remind me of chestnuts, nutmeg, and the holidays. Finishes surprisingly dry for such a high gravity beer. The aftertaste is not altogether pleasant, but this beer is an experience and well worth seeking out. j12601 (1349), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA

Bottle from 1989 at BCTC. Pours a murky brown. Lightly oxidized caramel on the nose. Flavors have faint echoes of the oxidization, but lean more towards light tangy fruit, apples and candy. Tingly on the tongue and tasty. Has held up remarkably well.

Sweet aroma, resembling the darker strong ales like Pannepot and Abbaye des Rocs Brune, a sweet ground nose. Appearance is amber with a smaller frothy head. Flavor is absolute perfect in my opinion, every taste but is carefelly taken care of in a fashionable order. Drinks away very very easy although it’s a pretty heavy beer. Near perfection. dmschefke (371), Eastpointe, Michigan, USA

Anyway, pours a nice slightly amber gold with thick white head, decent lacing, left most of the yeast in bottom of bottle to try later. Flavor is of yeast, slight hops, sweet malt, banana, sugar, and some fruity esters. Flavor matches well, but is a bit too sweet for my liking. Alcohol was pretty well hidden, but obviously still there. Pretty decent, but would have to try this more fresh to see if I prefer it aged or not. Kestral (212), Oslo, Norway

Fruity nose, apples and light plums. Much yeast. Quite a bit of alcohol. Very warming on the tongue, spicy and fruity with banana, cloves, plums, caramel malts. A bit too boozy, but still very good. evergreen0199 (291), London, Greater London, England

Apple, port like aroma. Sweet, dark fruits, plums, prunes, caramel taste. This beer is a world classic and tastes considerably better after many years of ageing. Taste is like aroma. Some hints of anice, cloves, banana. Finish is warm and bitter. Very complez brew but you really need to be in the mood for it. Very unique.
