Dark orange coloured, tiny yeast particles, big head. Aroma of spices with some malts and fruit. Dry and bitter flavour. Not sure about the style, but it’s quite ok. Re-rate: Bottled 0.7 liter BB October 2008, sampled April 2009. Huge amount of yeast in the bottle, flakes all over the place. Very fruity nose. Flavour is way more fruity and sour than in a fresh sample. Complex, yet not very strong. Aging really improves this one. sayravai (3786), Helsinki, Finland
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 7, 2007 (Bottled, 0.75l, Oerbier glass) Dark ruby red-amber color with a medium-large, tanned and foamy, lasting and lacy head. Sweetish, fruity, grainy-toffee-malty aroma. Starts off as very pleasant and fresh-fruity when pouring, but turns into duller and slightly ashy afterwards. Quite acidic, neutral flavor with dried-fruity, sweetish-grainy maltiness and a dryish, ashy and mildly bitter finish. Pouring in the yeast has very little effect. Medium-bodied, pretty foamy-carbonated palate. Of the abbey beers, this is more like Orval, than a Dubbel or Bruin - yet it has more sugar and especially less hops (it’s also not nearly as flowery). Overall a quite pleasant and easily drinkable brew, and not too sugary like most of the Dutch. bierkoning (6103), La Tropica, Netherlands
