thegreenrooster (1811), St.louis, Missouri, USA Aug 17, 2005 Pour is a good looking red-brown with lots of floaties in there. Aroma is very wine like and vinegar. Flavor is dark fruits with a certain mustyness. The flavor never really comes out and hits you like most Belgians. For this it loses points but over all it is decent and prob good for someone wanting to try the Belgian style for the first time. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Aug 3, 2005 Pours a cloudy light brown with a small head. Aroma reminds me a lot of Corsendonk’s Brown Ale. Flowery, dark raisins, a little caramel and yeast. Overall flavor is mostly like aroma. As this warmed I felt like I was drinking sugar water. There was practically nothing there in the end. Needs some more bite or complexity to keep me interested. $8 for 4 = never again. Suttree (2702), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Aug 1, 2005 On draft at the Flying Saucer, Nashville - served in a snifter. Let’s get this out of the way - it smelled like sweat socks, which in a bizarre way, is not a bad thing. The aroma also contain a lot funky, moldy elements that seemed to work. Anyway, copper, very small head. Really easy to drink - flavors are a mix of smoky, earthy malts, ham , and some mellow, floral hops. Nice. pintbypint (1002), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jul 18, 2005 On tap, Pub Italia, Ottawa. Amber coloured with a solid but small white head. Yeasty and bready aroma. Flavour is also yeasty and bready malt, slight yeast bite to the finish. Light bodied, very mildly carbonated. Mklein818 (165), Etterbeek, Virginia, Belgium Jul 7, 2005 A classic everyday Ale, best sampled in the cobblestoned plazas of Antwerp, its home. For a 5%er, De Koninck has varied flavors and surprising depth. Any town would be proud to have this as its local beer... mrkimchee (1414), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 6, 2005 amber colour, small white head. perfumy aroma with carmael, toasted bread and mild yeast. mixed fruity flavous with refreshing flowery hops and yeast. very nice quaffer. MullMan (1080), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA Jul 5, 2005 on tap at D.B.A. in NYC. they called it "Bolleke" probably because that’s what it said on the tap handle, but I thought that the name refers to the ball shaped glass, not the name of the beer. color was brownish-amber, mostly clear, large tall tannish head, ironically served in a snifter after all. aroma was caramel malt and earthy bitter hops. flavor the same, some caramel malt, earthy hops. nice session belgian ale for the californians who wish they were in London, or vice versa. did that make any sense? mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 3, 2005 draught. orange-amber body with a small white head. light fruity aroma, yeasty, and a touch of tartness. light quaffable body with mild fruit notes. yeasty and the finish is slightly chalky.
