The aroma is strong, with notes of coffee, burnt malt and something like dry flowers. Damn’ full bodied, sweet, some coffee, vanilla, dusty, sugary. Lack some acidity. Too sweet for my likings. chriso (4821), London, Greater London, England

Rich and thick. Powerful mix of roast coffee and dark chocolate in the flavour. Also lots of bitterness enhancing the drinkability of what is intrinsically a big and somewhat boozy heavyweight. Maybe not quite the perfect marriage but certainly a very harmonious one.

Courtesy of bierkoning, ty Edo! Pitch black color, nice creamy brown head. Intensive aroma of coffee, coffee beans, bourbon, lots of roasted malts. Full-bodied. Sticky palate. Whisky, chocolate, roasted malts and lots of alcohol. You can find handprints of both De Molen and Struise here. Needs more cellaring, I think, although it is drinkable already. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 9, 2009 Updated: Nov 10, 2009bottle. dense impenetrable black body with a creamy and soft brown head, good growth, lasting retention, soft-textured. nose is heavy with black patent malt (soy sause), fusel black licorice, char, smoked meat and tar. texture is thick and effervescent. flavor heavy with astringent char and salty soy sauce, more rubber-flavored licorice and a overt roast character. carbonation is loose and messy, turns annoyingly fizzy in the finish. soy sauce character becomes nearly unbearable. heavy alcohol and soured black licorice in the finish. kmweaver (2482), Sebastopol, California, USA

Pours a very dark, chocolate-brown color; medium-brown, fluffy head with excellent retention and fine-bubbled lacing. Loads of roasted malts, bitter chocolate, charred notes in the aroma; some oily, roasted nuttiness; nicely integrated barrel character. Creamy, dense mouthfeel: lots of charred maltiness, roasted malts, and bitter chocolate; very dense, chalky, roasted and toasty presence; softly integrated mouthfeel. Excellent BA beer. Lengthy finish: toasty, roasted coffee; bitter chocolate, nicely dry. BoBoChamp (1402), Gent, Belgium
