Flavor is vinous, chocoloate, intense bitterness, some red fruits. Get’s smoother along the way. Very bitter, some licorice. Interesting, intense brew. Nice label design. yngwie (5000), Kristiansand, Norway

The beer looks just lovely in the glass, with its pitch black body under a finger-thick tan head. Roasted and burnt nose with some charcoale notes and coffee. The flavor is balancing sweetness and roasted malts nicely, with bitterness, mostly coffee-like, and some charcoal. Full-bodied and warming, but not feeling boozy. A really nice beer, still there’s something I miss. Maybe the hops. (090516) omhper (12247), Stockholm, Sweden
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 21, 2009 Bottled at Belgobaren, Stockholm. Very black, small beige head. Sweet and roasty. Ashy and a bit fruity with notes of asphalt. Full bodied wit chocolate and brandy. Intense, but staying short of becoming inky. Everything fits together fine, but this concept of über-imperial Belgian stout does not really do it for me. daknole (3000), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA

Aroma is rich and full of cocoa, burned sugar, dark fruit, anise, asphalt and some coffe. Flavor has the asphalt and chocolate mix that I love. Good roasted notes and coffee as well. This shit is good. GilBier (75), Dendermonde, Belgium

Fine aroma’s of coffee, chocolate, burned malts, heavy caramel, dark sugars and hints of fruits. Taste is drier than expected, but still this exeptional beer is so nice to drink and so well balabced. Great looking lable too ! jerohen (1615), Bussum, Netherlands
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 15, 2009 Bottled from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Black appearance, lasting brown head, beautiful. Very strong nose, malts, coffee, chocolate, liquorice. Very bitter flavour, liquorice dominates, high on carbonation. The flavour takes a few sips get used to, but gets better after awhile. Lasting bitter finish. I love Hel & Verdoemenis, but was unimpressed by Black Albert; this one is closer to the latter. Borresteijn (1434), Amsterdam, Netherlands
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 10, 2009 33cl Bottle, a birthday gift, from De Bierkoning. ABV 13%. Pitch black colour, huge creamy beige/brown head, like chocolate mousse. Aroma of burnt malts, espresso coffee, tar, liquorice (drop). Flavour is sweet, malty, surprisingly soft, chocolate, tar, liquorice root, coffee, hoppy bitter finish accompanied by a good load of sweetness. Alcohol is not noticed at all. Fullbodied, thick oily mouthfeel, smooth and soft carbonation. This beer has the sturdy flavours and soft creamy mouthfeel of the Hel & Verdoemenis and the sweetness of Black Albert. A real treat. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 9, 2009 330 ml bottle broght home from Ølbutkken, København. A huge brownish cream head resting on black, ruby shaded body. Surprisingly fresh-smelling and crisp fruit aroma. A scent of Belgo-yeast is making its way through. Also notes of cocoa and hard roasted coffee. Dry, yet rich malt flavor. Cocoa and coffee again, and bitter chocolate. Tones of dark dried fruits. Underneath there’s a prominent bitterness. Powdery texture. No disturbing alcohol. Full-bodied, yet very easy drinkable. Strong bitter-sweet finish. Very nice indeed!
