There’s a really husky, husky edge of 120L Crystal and chocolate malt. Pours a dark, dark mahogany, with a coffee pour. Flavor is a like a thin porter. Coarse and roasty. The roasted malts taste somewhat coarse and primitive. I feel like this is loaded with brown malts. There seems like poor conversion in the malt. Rustic and historic. Brusk. Lightly tangy. Good balance with the hops. A bit of house yeast. A bit peculiar. A peculiar mingling of old recipe, experimentation, and dutch house yeast. Thanks Joe! goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA

Big sweet chocolate aroma with roasted malt coming in the second wave. Mild alcohol and fruit with a little tobacco thrown in. Estery and roasted malt flavor. The malt was light. Good warmth. gunhaver (1043), Tampa, Florida, USA

Brown pour, ruby red highlights, big fluffy white head and sticky lacing. Nutty roasty nose, some dark fruit, chocolate notes. Pretty flavorful beer: fully creamy roast, coffee, some chocolate and dark fruits, licorice, and a slight tobacco tinge. Full-bodied, balanced, and quite tasty. sebletitje (1997), Tampa, Florida, USA

Bottle #97. Pours clear brown with tan head.
Taste is malty with good notes of chocolate, some nutty touch with grains followed by good warming alcohol.
This is a damn tasty beer with a different approach to the style.

The aroma is not powerful, there is some chocolate, but it gently develops. It has chocolate, roasted malt and caramel flavor, very well balanced and mixed together, good body, smooth mouthfeel; a touch of malted cereals is fugitive but very pleasant. Correct final bitterness, maybe with light sourness. The alcohol is very well hidden. Complex, noble, excellent.
