25.4 oz bottle, Feb 2008. Clear purple brown with a smooth balsa head. Nose is coffee and dark chocolate with underlying smoke, tobacco and molasses. Milky yet substantial but not heavy with a light tingle. Taste is coffee, cocoa, cola and brown sugar. Bitter, coffee bean finish.

We have liked everything from de Molen so far, and the Triple Stout was no exception. Subtle, complex, smoky, slightly bitter chocolate tasting brew. This was bottle 474 of a batch of 696 bottles. Delicious.

750, corked and baled. ’08, #689. Jet black with garnet highlight. Headless, laceless. Super coffeeish nose with light prune notes. Watery-ish, light-ish body. Tons of coffee on the mid-palate. Mild coffee finish. Some roast and campfire and faintest chocolate in support. Delicious, but a bit lacking in complexity.

Time to start the Darkness warmup. Pours dark dark brown with a nice size tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, hops. Nice flavor, sweet followed by a solid bitterness. Don’t notice the alcohol.

Dark brown to black, thick beige head. Dry liquorice and coffee aroma. Slightly salty and sour, liquorice and coffee beans flavor, little old butter as well. Medium bodied, low carbonation. A tad too much off flavors, but still alright.

Black color with a large head. Dark and roasty malt aroma, paired up with some serious chocolate. Big, earthy malt and bitterness up front in the taste. Lots of chocolate and roasted malt. Pure dark malt bomb. Yum!

Bottle shared by a local. Imperial stout? Really? Poured a deep brown color with some burgundy red highlights and a moderate off-white head that diminished to a ring. Aroma of sweet, lightly roasted malts with some light chocolate, some anise, and a hint of smoke. Smooth, lightly sweet entry leads into a light roasted maltiness with some light chocolate, some anise and raisin, and some light smoke on the finish. Low carbonation, smooth on the palate. Decent, but pretty bland throughout.
