Hints of blood and sourness, but overall chocolate smooth and wonderful. Sweet and smokey. Stunning. I liked this a lot. I mean - a lot! I like De Molen. tdtm82 (42), Essex, England
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Nov 22, 2009 Lovely beer. Aroma is smoked malts, roasted chestnuts, orange zest, coffee and dark chocolate all at once. Kinda like a German smoke beer meets a dark coffee chocoloate orange! Wow.
Taste is smooth; mouth feel medium to full, good hop mesasue, intence on roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Also some special ingredient in there but can’t think what. Really lovely. My cork shot out at at 100mph so please be careful whilst opening. Really special beer. Thank you De Molen. Thank you Cracked Kettle. WOW. PS. Very heart waming. So 0.2 extra for that. fata2683 (902), Panama City, Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 1, 2009 bottle, thanks to SHIG, pours very dark brown, almost black with a tall dark tan head. Aroma has light coffe notes and some smokeyness with dark malt. Flavors start out with some sweet dark malt and a light spice and turn into a smoked malt bitterness that is out of this world. Tons of sweet dark fruit and maltyness in the finish riding alongside the smoke flavor that is so good and begs to be revisited. This is awesome beer. Ober (1214), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 31, 2008 At the brewery pub. A dark brown colored beer with a foamy beige head. The aroma of smoked, roasted malts, dark caramel. Some hops and yeast too. The taste of roasted malts with chocolate. A smooth and dry taste, stays in your mouth. The smoked notes are obvious there, but not a moment prevailing. A very good beer again. ogivlado (3088), Zagreb, Croatia

Bottled 330ml. -at In De Wildeman, Amsterdam. Dark brown (almost black) coloured, medium sized pale brown head, strong smoked nose. Roasted malt, smoke and some chocolate with notes of spices and coffee. Hint of smoked bacon in the finish. Like other De Molen beers this one is well balanced and enjoyable stout. Decent choice for my milestone. 8.2% Maria (6303), Thisted, Denmark

The aroma has notes of roasted malt, smoke and a little licorice. The flavour has a light sweetness, that is just right IMO, because I do not like too sweet smoked beers. It has notes of smoke, licorice, roasted malt and chocolate. The finish has a light sweetness and a slightly roasted bitterness. The balance is superb and it unites the smoked and the stout in a perfect way. A very worthy # 4000 for me here on RateBeer. SHIG (2037), Aviano, Italy

Aroma is dark chocolate, malts, and peat. Taste is more dark chocolate, smokey burnt malts, and sweet. Lingers on the tongue and keeps me interested at every sip. maeib (4756), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England

A lovely beer with big roasted malts in the nose. Burnt flavours with some smoke, but no more than I would expect from a roasty stout. Some fruit in the roastiness. Very nice but I think it has more stout qualities than smoked beer qualities.
